Priceline Hotel: Bidding Stragedy

I'm looking to stay in New York the weekend of Dec, 5th - 9th 2013

When I look at the package it says $565 Flight+Hotel Hojo Long Island City ( Now "Sleep In")

I have a gut feeling I'll be overpaying by the time I book late November.

I'm so new at this bidding thing, any suggestion?

Note:

Last year I stayed there for about &554, I though it was a good deal and I definitely loved it,I liked staying in Long Island City and would love to stay there again, but I thought this whole bidding thing was a scam and that's why I never used it before.

Well, I'm looking to get both flight/ hotel, but that's my question, I don't know if I would be better off bidding/buying them separately and save money, or just stay with the or a package deal.

Guest- could be 1 or 2

Flight- $316 from SJU-NYC

Hotel- 159/night - Sleep Inn Long Island City

Flight/ Hotel Package - $926 (Last year I spent $554)

Note:

I'm flexible where I stay, as long as it's in the lowest price, clean and close to a subway. I'm thinking 1 to 2 1/2 stars work for me. I think $926 is way too much this year.

Seasonally this is one of the most expensive weeks in the city, so i'm assuming last year you came for different dates.

The rates you're quoting above look to be for one person, so to compare apples-to-apples:

Total: $926

Less Air: $316

Room Cost: $610

So the question is can you get a 2* hotel in LIC for $610 all-in or less?

PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 2* hotel in the LIC zone (Free Breakfast, Free Internet, Business Center) for your dates at $103/nite which comes to $510 all-in. Add this to your $316 flight and you're at $826 which would be less expensive than the 'package' above... but keep in mind you then don't know the name of the hotel you will be receiving.
