Hey all,

I am new to this community and I am also a new bidder, so please go easy on me :)

I want to discover the christmas time in Big Apple, so I am looking for 1Room 2Persons in the span of Dec 21-27 for three nights - let's say Dec 22-26.

Basically, I have no special preferences for a certain place or hotelbrand. Any part of Manhattan should work except districts too far away from downtown, like Harlem, Brooklyn, Long Island etc.

I would like a 3.5* or 3* Hotel with a target budget of 110 - 130$. 150$ Max each night. 2,5* is also acceptable if I'm being unreasonable w/ my expectations. I just want to have a safe, not-dirty place to stay with double bed in Manhattan - so lower price and closeness to city preferred before high stars.

I have the bold assumption that during Christmas Time, ppl would spend time at their home and thus anticipated lower prices - but then again I might be too optimistic. My first few bidding results are in favor for the latter. Maybe you could explain me the seasonal situation during Christmas at the NYC hotel market.

Many Thanks in advance, I appreciate any help you can provide me!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Holiday rates in NYC traditionally drop after the middle of the month and stay low until just a few days before New Years Eve... so you're in the sweet spot for the best rates for this time of year.

I would recommend shooting for a 3* or above as the quality can get 'iffy' at 2.5* and below... you may get a diamond in the rough that works great for your plans... or you could get something that is not so pleasant and nearly spoil your trip.

What appears to be the 4* Roosevelt hotel is offered on HOTWIRE for $111/nite and while some don't think this property lives up to 4 standards, if you would be happy with a 2.5* hotel then i think this should likely fit your needs, and is probably the best bang for your buck this trip.

If you think this property would be acceptable, you could try to bid on PRICELINE in an effort to beat this price, and if rejected take this offer. Do you think this would work for your needs and do you want to try bidding with this as a maximum bid... if so, do you want to keep the bidding at the 4*, 3.5*, or 3* level?

Upon further research with the Bidding Helper, I found a 4* Hotel in MTE at a rate of 102$ per night, which pretty much satisfies my expectations regarding price, place and hotel standard, though it doesnt come with breakfast.

The next best deal was $123 for a 3.5* in SoHo Tribeca, which is also not the worst choice.

What is your opinion on this? Especially, the 4* Hotel for this price seems a little bit too good to be true. Are there some details I haven't considered?

Thanks!

Wow, didn't expect an answer that fast. Thank you for the help, thereuare :)

I suppose we are talking of the same hotel in MTE. I entered the time from 23rd to 26th in the Bidding Helper, and therefore got a slightly better rate. If it is a low 4* or more of a 3.5* star, i can totally live with it. If you say it is probably the Roosevelt hotel, I can also look it up.

Now that I found immediatly a good offer, my preferences might increase  I would be ready to pay around 120-150 if I get an even better hotel in the span of 3.5* - 4.5* , maybe including breaksfast. Judging from your last post, it is not highly unreasonable and worth a shot?

Also, is this 5% Off Priceline at your signature applicable if I'd book the Roosevelt via Priceline Express?

The PRICELINE code linked in my signature is good for any PRICELINE EXPRESS property rated 2* or higher.

If the 4* MTE property shows Restaurant and Business amenities then yes, best guess for this one would be the Roosevelt.

Most 3.5* and higher hotels do not include breakfast... that is an amenity more often seen at the 3* and lower rated hotels.

If you're willing to stretch your original budget, HOTWIRE has what looks to be the:

4.5* Times Sqaure InterContinental for $167nite

4* ESB Hotel Chandler for $147/nite

4* Chelsea Doubletree Chelsea for $142/nite

3.5* MSG Yotel Times Square for $138/nite

These would appear to be some of your better options on a price to star rating basis (and taking into considering my knowledge of the hotels, assuming my guesses are correct). If you try to under-cut these star rating and zones by bidding on PRICELINE the 'problem' is that you may receive a different hotel in the zone which might not be as well reviewed.

I took an approach on PRICELINE to undercut the Roosevelt offer. I got the offer for 96$ per night, which is overall satisfying! The hotel review is mixed, but it will suffice, the point is to explore the NYC at Christmas and the location is optimal.

What I realized later is, that I might should have started with a less amount. The bidding of 96$ was my first bid and I noticed I started off too pessimistic. Nevertheless, the normal price for one room is 160$, so for 4 days, I saved roughly $240! :)

On top, I know how to improve my strategy. I saw the re-bid strategy, which would have been an adequate approach.

Thanks again, I will be using the site for every bookings from now on!
