heavy76 Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Hi all,Thanks for all the help and advice on this website but I need a little guidance. Going to NY in Nov dates 14-17, hoping for a 4* in Soho Tribeca area with budget of around 210dollars per night.I tried bidding tonight using your links and advise and got rejected with last bid 180 after rebidding using different zones. I see on the priceline express that there is a four star available in this region for 209/night with guest review of 8/10 and amenities listed as Free Internet in public areasPets AllowedRestaurantBusiness CenterFitness CenterAny ideas on what this may be, upon reading other posts Im thinking the courtyard manhattan soho, should i just go with that? Thanks in advace :)
thereuare Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!I don't believe this would be the Courtyard which would more likely be 3.5* rated... my best guess for this one would be the Sheraton Tribcea.Whether to take the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer depends upon how much you want this hotel (assuming our guess is correct), how flexible you are to consider staying in other areas, how you value possibly saving another $5-$20/nite (with the possibility of landing a different 4* hotel in the zone)Note the link in my signature provides a code for an extra 5% OFF should you decide to move forward with this property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and/or how you'd like to proceed and we'll try to assist further. heavy76 Posted October 15, 2013 Author Report Posted October 15, 2013 Thanks for your reply :)Well i think that we would be happy if it was the Sheraton Tribeca. However if you think that there would be a good chance of getting another 4 star in this zone and saving a few extra dollars to go towards the trip that would be great!
heavy76 Posted October 15, 2013 Author Report Posted October 15, 2013 I just tried bidding again there but this time for a 3.5* in soho tribeca region for same dates. My starting bid of 190 was rejected but in the reply was a message stating that this is a one time oppurtunity that if i increased my bid to 230 and try again.. Is this normal? I didnt but maybe I should have??
thereuare Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 This is what is referred to as a counter-offer and it basically tells you that the 'right' price right now is somewhere between $191-$230... it could be just $1 more than your rejected bid or up to the full amount of the counter-offer. You can read more about PRICELINE counter-offers in this Priceline Suggests Price to Pay thread.Note that there is currently a 5% OFF code linked in my signature for PRICELINE EXPRESS deals which brings the 4 star $209/nite hotel in this zone down to $199/nite. Given your rejected at $190 for a 3.5*... is a 4* hotel worth an extra $9/nite? (and i think there would be a decent chance that if you were successful bidding 3.5* that you would be upgraded to a 4* hotel... the star rating you bid on PRICELINE is the minimum that you're willing to accept, not the absolute star rating)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and keep us updated on your progress. heavy76 Posted October 16, 2013 Author Report Posted October 16, 2013 HI well i just tried bidding again this eve for a 3.5* in Soho Tribeca and this time started at 200 seeing as previous offer of 190 was rejected previously. It was accepted and got upgraded to the Sheraton Tribeca. I probably should have started much lower but am very new to this so its done now. I dont think I really saved that much money as would have got it 199 nite with your express deal offer and have only saved 20dollars from booking on regular site like booking.com. Still I suppose I can use that 20 dollars and try the 20 dollar trick that have come across on this website to try and get upgraded again! :)Thanks for all your help
heavy76 Posted October 16, 2013 Author Report Posted October 16, 2013 Apologies, i saved a lot more than 20$, i had forgotten about the tax and other charges that comes after initial quote! Thanks guys, great website! :)
