vitello Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Hi guys!I am Niko from Greece and happy to be here! I have booked already one time over priceline but the "risk" was really low because I booked in Hoboken/Jersey City area a 4* Hotel, where only a few really good 4* hotels exist. So now I am about to book 3 rooms in Manhattan without any experience ! I checked the Hotwire list here and I could limit it to the nine 4* hotels in Midtown East area. Now I got a Hotel for 150$ in Midtown East area for 24/12/2013 - 30/12/2013 with the following amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center Internet accessAccessibilityAccessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroomCould you guys please help me identifying the hotel?I appreciate your help! Thank you!Niko
thereuare Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links. If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool, and then click the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above? Doing so this is the full list of amenities i see associated with this property:Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower If this is what you're seeing, my best guess for this property would be the Roosevelt Hotel. When you do make your purchase, please change the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. vitello Posted October 13, 2013 Author Report Posted October 13, 2013 I'll do what you mentioned and let you guys know then! Thank you so far!!!

vitello Posted October 14, 2013 Author Report Posted October 14, 2013 Hi! Not yet! The problem is I need to ask 5 people for 3 rooms and everybody has an other opinion on this!can I bid at priceline.com only on one area or do I have to choose two areas??What would you say if I do it this way...PRICELINE.comchoosing Midtown East ( one area if possible )bidding 100$-150$?If I have to choose two areas what would you say about the following bidding-strategy:PRICELINE.comchoosing Midtown East and Westbidding 100$-150$?Is there a way to limit the risk of which hotel you get?Thank you! You are a really big help for everybody!
thereuare Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 You can bid only one zone if you'd like, but the more zones you include the more hotels have the ability to accept your bid price, which equates to a better deal.Take the following example (fictitious numbers i made up for this example, not specific to your trip):4* MTE - the 'right' price is $1504* MTW - the 'right' price is $110If you only bid MTE up to $150 you win at that price, but if MTW was also acceptable, you never gave yourself a chance to win that for $40/nite less.Your group first needs to decide what is more important for this trip... the best price at a 4* hotel OR some particular amenity or location.I'll also add that you may be splitting hairs over nothing, as at current rates you really don't have too many options at the $150 area (i only see one hotel as the most likely result, the Roosevelt guessed above, most other 4* hotels in midtown i'm seeing are substantially higher priced)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. vitello Posted October 14, 2013 Author Report Posted October 14, 2013 So which area would you suggest holding the cost effectiveness in mind? It dont have to be a 4 * Hotel but it should be a clean one in a more or less central area..thank you very much I really appreciate your help and it should be appreciated by us all supporting you by booking over your links!
thereuare Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 I don't think there is going to be too much at 3* or higher that is below $150/nite.If i were doing the bidding i would try for a 4* hotel in the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and Chelsea zones up to $150. If that is rejected then take the HOTWIRE offer if you're ok with what i'm guessing to be the Roosevelt... which is far from my favorite hotel in the city, but it does have an excellent location. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or how we can be of further help. vitello Posted October 15, 2013 Author Report Posted October 15, 2013 Allright I`ll think about it!! I mean I dont want the Roosevelt the tripadvisor ratings are saying no! :P Allright then I will try it via PRICELINE.com in different areas! Thanks so far I`ll let you now when I booked it!Thank you very much.
thereuare Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 If the Roosevelt is not acceptable and you decide to bid on PRICELINE, then DON'T include MTE in your bidding as you could end up with the Roosevelt. Also, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? I suspect the nites of 12/24-12/27 be be fairly reasonably priced.. but 12/27-12/30 may be higher priced as this would be the start of when NYE visitors arrive for the 'long weekend' (and the days prior to NYE will likely be more expensive as well). Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know how we can be of further help along the way.
