fafiki Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 First time using better bidding. I'd like to get the Hilton Garden Inn Toronto Airport.Started out bidding for the first night (11/15):Regular Priceline: 86.29 or $92.10 w/ taxExpress Deal for Mississauga: $54 or $68.88 w/ taxPlanning to do3* Mississauga $40.002.5* Toronto East $43.00 and then keep trying til every couple days. Do I have the right idea?
yellowdog Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding :) You can't bid on or avoid a specific hotel when using PRICELINE You have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) you select. If you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive. Is Hilton the only hotel you want to stay at?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Yellowdog.

fafiki Posted October 10, 2013 Author Report Posted October 10, 2013 Click. Click.Okay.No I'm open to staying at others as well.Do you guys think there is any chance I can get a room for less that $50?
thereuare Posted October 11, 2013 Report Posted October 11, 2013 PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 3* hotel offered for $63/nite and using the discount code linked in my signature gets you another 5% OFF bringing the room rate down to $60/nite... so you're not that far off.Since you have some time you can try bidding as follows:When bidding 3* in Toronto you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* Mississauga... Bid $43, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $45If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and re-try (once again using a PRICELINE link from the board and the links in any emails that PRICELINE may send informing you that you're eligible to bid again):Select 3* Mississauga... Bid $48, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $50If the above is rejected you can then decide if you want to:-wait it out and hope for lower prices in the weeks ahead-raise your maximum bid-lower your star rating-consider other zones-take the PRICELINE EXPRESS offerAny questions on the above feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. fafiki Posted October 11, 2013 Author Report Posted October 11, 2013 Thank you so much! That's where I was confused. So no matter I can't keep rebidding $40 every 24 hours. Right? I'll always have to add another zone and/or raise my bid after the 24 hour period. I'll post my results up as soon as I get a room booked.
thereuare Posted October 11, 2013 Report Posted October 11, 2013 So no matter I can't keep rebidding $40 every 24 hours. Right? I'll always have to add another zone and/or raise my bid after the 24 hour period.NO...In 24 yours you can bid the same amount, but if it was rejected just 24 hours prior odds favor the same price would be rejected again. If you bid the same amount you're basically betting that the hotel has lowered their minimum threshold since the last time you bid... so to increase your chances you would want to increase your bid slightly. Also, using our Priceline Maps you'll see that the last expensive bid price accessed for a 3* hotel this year has been $50, so if you want to start low that's fine, but i would at least start working your way higher with each bid, as the odds of something less than $50 would be somewhat low (unless you have reason to believe that rates for these dates should be substantially lower than usual)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. fafiki Posted July 16, 2015 Author Report Posted July 16, 2015 I ended up getting a hotel through a work discount on this stay. I revisited the bidding strategy again on different stays.
