newbieee Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 I found this 3.5* Soho-Tribeca Express Deal for the search dates 12/7 to 12/14 for $209/nt. With the 5% discount it goes down to $199/nt.Listed amenities are:Free WiFiRestaurantBusiness CenterFitness CenterRated 8/10Which hotel do you think this is?I’ve been bidding up to $180 for 3.5* for a more centrally located area, without any luck. Do you think I should go with this deal, or keep bidding?
thereuare Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! As you might imagine these amenities are extremely common for a NYC so it's not easy to narrow this one down... the Duane Street Hotel, Hilton Garden Inn Tribeca, Four Points Soho, and Courtyard Soho all fit this description and be among the likely candidates.Since this an extended stay you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'. If you're happy with the results purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay. Not sure if your goal is to stay in this zone or you're looking here as it is the least expensive 3.5* property, but you may want to also give HOTWIRE a look which has some 3*/3.5* in the midtown area and around this price point as well. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. newbieee Posted October 10, 2013 Author Report Posted October 10, 2013 Thank you for the quick response. It seems I may end up with a split hotel stay using your recommendation. I really do not want to split my stay. The hotels you listed seem decent enough. That said, I have a couple questions:•I’ve been bidding, w/o success up to $180 in these areas: CPS, Chelsea, ESB, MSG, MW, Soho-Tri, and UWS. Do you think $180 is pretty impossible for that time of year in these areas, and I should jump on the Express Deal?•As for Hotwire, I don’t see anything at 3.5* or higher that is equal to or better than the PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal. Also, I’ve read a Hotwire 4* = PL 3.5*. Do you have any comment on how their star ratings equate?I do realize I still have time before the trip to find a hotel. Thanks again.
thereuare Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your trip... but excluding 'special events' which can drive up hotel demand and prices (such as the United Nations being in session, a large convention at the Javitz Center, etc), seasonally these are historically some of the most expensive dates in NYC.Both PRICELINE and HOTWIRE use their own criteria to assign ratings to hotels. Often the two rate the same hotel with the same star rating, but when there is a different, HOTWIRE is usually the one that is a bit more 'generous'... but the two are the same frequently enough that i don't think you can/should automatically assume that a 4* offered on HOTWIRE would be 3.5* rated on PRICELINE.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated on your progress and let us know how we can be of further help in the process. newbieee Posted October 10, 2013 Author Report Posted October 10, 2013 After bidding up to $195 in the areas I’ve previously listed, I went ahead and booked the Express Deal, which turned out to be Courtyard New York Manhattan/Soho, $209/nt before the 5% discount. I’m pleased with the outcome. I used the PRICELINE link on this site. Thanks for your help!
