Wheel Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Hi All,I have tried to bid through priceline for several days but was unable to secure a hotel for my period of stay, 12 - 17 Oct 13. I have increased my bid to $150 and dropped my star rating from 4* to 3* for area USE, USW, FW and Embarcadero. It seems that 12 Oct is fully booked for most hotels. I am also thinking of splitting my stay, 12 Oct and 13-17 Oct, but it will be a hassle to change hotel. This is my first time to SF and I do not drive.Any advice/suggestion? Or should I look for bnb instead with my budget? Thank you in advance
thereuare Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Have you looked into rates even when SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and purchasing the nite of Oct 12 separately, as i'm not seeing rates anywhere near your $150 budget even for the dates of 10/13-10/17... i only see lower rates when searching for 10/15-10/17, which then still leaves the question as to what you will do for the 3 earlier nites?I am seeing an anesthesiology conference with ~17K attendees taking place from 10/12-10/16, and that may be a contributing factor to the high rates you're seeking. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Wheel Posted October 9, 2013 Author Report Posted October 9, 2013 Hi thereuare, thanks for your reply. I learned about the conference when I saw most of the hotels are sold out for that period. I have tried to increase my bidding for 12 - 14 Oct 13 to $230 for 4* but still no luck. Hotwire has secret hotels 4* Union Square East - Moscone Area for $286 AmenitiesPet friendlyIndoor pool(s)Fitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterInternet access4* Union Square West - Nob Hill for $277 (but read review so far that USW might be near to Tenderloin area so not recommended)AmenitiesPet friendlyIndoor pool(s)Fitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterInternet access3* Civic Center South - Hayes Valley for $185 (Same as USW, might be near to Tenderloin)AmenitiesFree InternetSmoke Free RoomsFitness CenterRestaurant(s)Business CenterInternet accessI browsed through past postings in this forum and the prices above seems pretty high.
thereuare Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 I have tried to increase my bidding for 12 - 14 Oct 13 to $230 for 4* but still no luck.Have you already secured accommodations for the later nites of your trip? For 10/12-10/14 PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 3.5* hotel in the Financial District zone for $262/nite (Pets Allowed, Restaurant) and using the discount code link in my signature takes another 5% OFF bringing the room rate down to $250/nite, should this be of any interest.I have tried to increase my bidding for 12 - 14 Oct 13 to $230 for 4* but still no luck.Given that you have 'only' bid up to $230 are you ready to pay $275+ on HOTWIRE OR is your game plan to continue to bid higher first on PRICELINE until you get closer to the $275+ asking prices on HOTWIRE?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Wheel Posted October 10, 2013 Author Report Posted October 10, 2013 Hi thereuare,Thank you for your recommendation! After your reply, I went to look at the priceline express for 10/12 - 10/14, thinking of getting the one you saw, 3.5* hotel in the Financial District zone for $262/nite. And guess what? I saw this express deal "4½ Star Hotel in Financial District - Embarcadero Area for $199/night". So trying my luck, I started to bid for 4.5* hotel in Financial District from $160 and I got a counteroffer for $208. I bidded in $5 increment and finally managed to get the hotel at $180. It's Omni San Francisco. And I saved 47%. Very happy with my first winning bid on priceline.Below are the amenities listed:Pets AllowedRestaurantBusiness CenterFitness CenterThanks again. Now time to secure accommodation for 10/14 - 10/17. Is there any charge if I extend my stay with priceline? But it only allows me to extend maximum 2 days till 10/16. Do they allow further extension?
thereuare Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Congratulations on your (partial) success and thank you for sharing your win with the board. Glad to see this 4.5* property appeared at a good rate and you were able to grab it.Unfortunately you can only attempt to extend your stay once, and you can only extend for up to the same number of nites as your original bid (so you can only try to extend up to 2 nites in this instance and you only get one attempt to do so... of PRICELINE does not have access to inventory at this property for the additional time you try to extend you can't try again on another day)For help with, or to report a win for, the additional nites of your trip please start a NEW TOPIC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Enjoy this leg of your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
