brent_rowley Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Looking for 3.5-4* room for next Thurs-Fri for under $200. Any suggestions?
AaronJB Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. What zone/s would be acceptable? Based on the rates that I'm seeing, I think $200 unfortunately appears unlikely for these date/s at the 3.5-4* level.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

brent_rowley Posted October 7, 2013 Author Report Posted October 7, 2013 any chance at $250 preferably midtown east, chelsea or soho
thereuare Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 any chance at $250 preferably midtown east, chelsea or sohoAre these the only three zones you're willing to accept? While i think you have a good chance at a 3.5* hotel in one of these zones for around the $250/nite mark... i also believe you can get a 4* hotel in Times Square within this same budget as well. Please confirm your preference (higher rated 4* hotel in Times Square (or also include any other zones??) vs. a lower rated hotel in one of the three zones above) and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. brent_rowley Posted October 7, 2013 Author Report Posted October 7, 2013 Would prefer to avoid Times Square. Possibly midtown west but only if hotel is on the east side of times square. Thanks.
thereuare Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 When bidding on PRICELINE you need to be able to accept a hotel anywhere in the zone(s) that you select and there is no way to target, or avoid, a particular location within the zone. We will therefore stick with just your 3 zones of MTE, Chelsea, Soho. However, PRICELINE EXPRESS now has a 4* in the MTE zone with Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center for $251/nite... using the discount link in my signature brings this down to $237/nite, so we can use $235 as a maximum bid at the 4* level and try as follows:Select 4* MTE...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* Chelsea...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* Soho...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and Chelsea...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and Soho...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and Chelsea and Soho...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $235If the above is rejected you can then take the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal using the discount linked in my signature.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. brent_rowley Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 How do you rebid a zone? I bid %180 for MTE and they won't let me rebid 190 for the zone unless I add a new zone or star level.I also don't see the room in express MTE for $241 after discount.
thereuare Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 The PRICELINE EXPRESS offer for a 4* hotel in MTE at $241 is now gone, but let's get straight on re-bidding first and we'll take it from there...I assume you have already read the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread? If not, please start there, if so and you're still confused, try the following:1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City, NY' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. brent_rowley Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 So to confirm- LIC and MH-Harlem are the only to other zones that don't offer 4*? So I add those 2 when I rebid.
thereuare Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 Yes, that is correct, but always double check your re-bid oznes just before bidding so make sure that nothing has changed (as new hotels are added/upgraded/downgraded all the time)Not sure how 'desperate' you feel at this point, but since you don't have much time between now and your arrival, and the $241 MTE property is gone, the best options i see within your parameters is ~$270 (or not sure if you would then re-consider Times Square wtihin your current budget (if still available), you may want to revise the bidding to reach your stated maximum bid:Select 4* MTE...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* Chelsea...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* Soho...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and Chelsea...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $235, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and Soho...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $235, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and Chelsea and Soho...Bid $240, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $245, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $250Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. brent_rowley Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 Nothing 4* in those zones for 250. What do you think the price point is for 3.5*?
thereuare Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 I'd guess somewhere near the $250 area for a 3.5* hotel on one of the zones above.HOWEVER, assuming that a 3.5* will cost you close to $250/nite, if your budget is flexible, you may want to consider trying for a 4.5* hotel up to $275-$280 if the extra star rating is worth the extra $25-$30/nite to you. The other option is to re-consider the Times Square zone. One last option, although not ideal, but i gave a quick look and it does offer some significant savings...If you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID:PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* MTW for $154/nite for the nite of 10/10 (Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center)... less 5% using the discount code linked in my signatureThen for 10/11 there are plenty of options4* MTE: $227 (Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Fitness Center)3.5* ESB $182 (Restaurant, Free Internet, Fitness Center)While changing hotels is not ideal on a short trip like this, you may be looking at $100+ savings and increasing the star ratings of your hotel(s).Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed. brent_rowley Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 gave up on PRICELINE. did HOTWIRE secret hot rate through your link and got the new york palace(4.5*) for $282.
thereuare Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 Congratulations on your success! While perhaps a bit more than you originally intended to spend, at least you received a bit extra value for the higher price ($20-$30/nite more for a 4.5* seems like a good value vs. a 3.5*) and are happy with the outcome. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers. Can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase.
