bluekiwi Posted September 29, 2013 Report Posted September 29, 2013 I am looking to rent an economy car one way. Pick up Oct 30 LAX and return SFO on Nov. 18. I have never used Priceline bidding for cars so am not sure what price I should start at? Also, will there be an additional fee afterwards since it is a one way rental? I'm also assuming it might be best just to buy a GPS myself instead of renting it for that long from the rental company. Thanks!

thereuare Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 If you search Priceline for Car Rentals (use this link or the one in my signature) it appears that Alamo is substantially cheaper than all the others... they may NOT be treating this as a one-way rental where the other rental companies are tacking on a one-way dropoff fee (OR Alamo could know that they have cars at LAX that need to go back to SFO and therefore are pricing this very competitively to have you help them to the 'move'). Assuming the rate offered ($22/day) is fully refundable i would book this asap so at the very least you have a back-up.Then, regarding the questions in your post above, PRICELINE has always been a bit vague stating that there may be a drop-off charge (although i can no longer find this information on their website)... although i recall anyone who has been charged when bidding and using the pick-up/drop-off locations that were selected during the purchase (ie- if your plans change and you ultimately decide to drop your car off at LAX, SAN, or any other location then of course there would likely be an additional charge)Once you've secured the $22/day thru PRICELINE (which by comparison seems very reasonable) you can decide if you want to try bidding for this rental to save a few extra dollars (given the vague-ness of their policy above OR if you're happy with the $22/day)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
