Minnesota Nice Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Good morning. :) I am looking for a 10/3 - 10-4 stay in NYC. We've not been before, so we're hoping to stay near Penn Station (so #10 Madison Square Garden zone), where we'll be coming in at, or perhaps in #16 Times Square zone (if opening a zone helps in the re-bidding process.) We'd prefer 4* or 3.5*, but will go down to a 3* (and cross our fingers on a 'guest favorite'!) I am open to suggestions on prices. This AM Priceline Express Deals in MSG has a 4* for $227, but it has no guest rating. It has a 3.5* for $314, with a guest rating of 9.0, and a 3* for $319 with a guest rating of 8.0. So while my head says, "I wonder if I can get that $227 down below $200" it also wonders if it can get the $314 down to $250 because I'd rather have a hotel that has guest ratings listed. And on the third hand, it's my first time in NYC, I only get a day, and probably won't be in the hotel much anyway. (Yes, I over-think things, haha!) I'd really like to stay at around $250 or lower though. Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.I wonder if I can get that $227 down below $200" it also wonders if it can get the $314 down to $250 because I'd rather have a hotel that has guest ratings listed.Do you mean by bidding on a hotel from PRICELINE's Name Your Own Price or by watching this offer and seeing if it drops in price?Since your trip is for just one nite, and as you point out you won't likely be in the room much anyway, i'd suggest bidding on PRICELINE for a 4* hotel in the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and MSG zones. This should get you something (at the very least) 'nice', you'll be able to increase your bids slowly for close to the lowest price possible, and for the most part centrally located. In doing so i think you can get a 4* hotel in the $200-$220 area, and while it may or may not be the best 4* hotel in the zone, it should at the very least meet your needs for this one nite stay... i'd prefer to save the $30-$40 and put it towards doing something fun in the city (or splurge on a bottle of wine at dinner that you may not ordinarily purchase... anything that would make this trip special and memorable for you)Ultimately you know your needs for this trip better then we do, so let us know your thoughts on how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Minnesota Nice Posted September 24, 2013 Author Report Posted September 24, 2013 Thanks. Message read! Do you mean by bidding on a hotel from PRICELINE's Name Your Own Price or by watching this offer and seeing if it drops in price?Pretty much. I guess I was questioning the idea of getting a great price on a certain hotel with 4* that doesn't have any guest ratings, vs. paying a bit more and getting 3.5* that excellent ratings. But your comment below about it meeting my needs relieved my worries as to that, so thanks. Pretty much if it doesn't have bed bugs and is clean, I'm going to be happy. Since your trip is for just one nite, and as you point out you won't likely be in the room much anyway, i'd suggest bidding on PRICELINE for a 4* hotel in the MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ESB, and MSG zones. If taxis to those areas you suggested aren't more than the savings I'd gain, then any of those areas are fine, so yes use those areas, 4*, and please suggest a starting bid and don't go over $250. Thanks!
