dash_r Posted September 14, 2013 Report Posted September 14, 2013 Hi allWe are looking to go to New York on 12th-16th Dec.I have researched flights and now onto hotels. I have used PL in the past mainly for Amsterdam/Berlin and had cracking deals but NY seems more complex.Firstly the rates I am seeing for my proposed dates on conventional booking sites are crazy.... $500+ at the Marriott for example. Have I picked the wrong dates?! So I am looking at PL. Few questions :1) We are NY virgins so really want to be central...2) I have read about resort fee's being added at Check-in. Is this a hotel specific thing.3) Could someone help with a bidding strategy. Looking for a 4 or 5* in Times Square or no more than 10 min walk from it.In exchange I promise to use the links here and feedback!ThanksDash
AaronJB Posted September 14, 2013 Report Posted September 14, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. This is within the core holiday shopping/festivities period (around 11/26-12/15ish) which unfortunately is also one of the busiest/most expensive periods of the year. Please note which zone/s would be acceptable (that you would be willing to stay anywhere within the zone.) Times Square is arguably the most popular zone, but it's also the most expensive. Other nearby zones (MTE, for example) will still be pricey for these date/s, but almost certainly more reasonable than TS.What would be your desired budget per night for this stay?Sharing any other prior wins (as separate threads) would be greatly appreciated, as the information does still help others.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
dash_r Posted September 14, 2013 Author Report Posted September 14, 2013 HiThanks for your reply. I guess the Xmas season is it then. So, taking your advice about Times Square, the following zones would be ok...Mid town EastMid Town WestHells Kitchen and potentially Madison Sq Garden.I am making an assumption that these are walkable/short subway hop to Times square...From looking at BA and jet2 etc, I think my budget is about £125 a night... so thats nearly $200 a night.Any good reccomendations for me?Thanks

yellowdog Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 Also, do you think it would go for less on name your own price? If so can I have a bidding strategy?Sometimes can you undercut the PRICELINE EXPRESS deals. If you would like to get help with a bidding strategy so please post your budget/night before tax/fees, zone(s) you're willing to stay in and the star rating for the hotel.Let us know how you want to play this. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Yellowdog.
AaronJB Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 The 3* TS Express listing is a match amenity-wise for a lot of 3*'s in the zone. However, I'd guess the Best Western President would be a possibility.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
dash_r Posted September 23, 2013 Author Report Posted September 23, 2013 Hello Yellowdog, thanks for your reply, assistance is what I need.My dates are 12 Dec --> 16 DecThe zones I would like to stay in are : Times Square, Midtown West, Midtown East, Central Park South, Hells KitchnI would like a 4*.Most is $200.If this is not possible, same as above but 3* and $160.Is this all you need for a strategy? Thanks also AAronJB.
