DCisHome Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 This forum is so cool! First time reader, but have been using PRICELINE for years. (Wish I found you sooner!)Using the advice from reading through prior posts, I just tried to get a very nice (5* or 4.5*) room for $271 or under in TS, CPS,or MW for Oct 10 -13 2013. It was a fantasy and I knew it (and I failed), but here's what I did:1. Bid $201 for a 5* in CPS2. $209, 5*, CPS, MW3. $231, 5* CPS, MW, TS4. $241, 4.5*, CPS, MW, TS5. $251, 4.5*, CPS, MW, TS, UWS6. $261 4.5*, CPS, MW, TS, UWS, LES7. $265 4.5*, CPS, MW, TS, UWS, LES, MSG8. $271 4.5*, CPS, MW, TS, UWS, LES, MSG, HKSo, now I need help! I want to stay in CPS, MW or TS and am willing to stay in a 4* (or better). When I start my bidding tomorrow (after the 24 hours are up), what do you suggest? Since I havent really been researching 4*, what is the lowest rate you think I can get? I can pay up to $271, but would really like to keep it under $230 unless that's too unreasonable. And I started all of my searches and research from your PRICELINE links of course. Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding... we're glad you found us too! :)If you've only been bidding 4.5* and above so far you don't need to wait 24 hours to bid at the 4* level... you can always bid again at a lower star rating. At current rates I think you may have a difficult time getting a 4* hotel in CPS, MTW, or TS for your dates at under $230/nite... $271/nite might be possible. Before proceeding i'll add that HOTWIRE has what appears to be the 4.5* The New York Palace for $285/nite, but not sure if you're budget is firm at $271/nite or if you're willing to pay a little more for the 4.5* you were originally seeking.I'll also add that HOTWIRE has what appears to be the 4* rated Kitano in the ESB zone for $264/nite... this offer has a very high TA rating at 4.5/5.0 and gets good reviews; within your budget but not in one of the zones you listed as acceptable.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. DCisHome Posted September 19, 2013 Author Report Posted September 19, 2013 Thanks. I really have my heart set on CPS, MW or TS, so I think I want to stick with the plan to stay there at 4* or better. I have stayed at the Kitano before and liked it, but I want something more central for this trip, and I do want to stay under $271 if I can (because I really want my 3 nights to stay under $1k including taxes and fees). So, what do you suggest?

DCisHome Posted September 22, 2013 Author Report Posted September 22, 2013 Using Betterbidding's PRICELINE links, I followed all these steps and didn't get a room. I went a little further and followed similar steps to try to get a 4* room in ESB, HK, SoHo, and Ch to no avail. Went as high as 251 for all those areas and as high as $271 in TS, CPS, MW too, but to no avail. Although it took a couple hours, it was still kinda fun, even though I was unsuccessful. I definitely knew that if and when I got a room, it was going to be absolutely the cheapest possible, which is a very satisfying feeling.I found a room at the Sheraton TS for $303 using a discounted rate. Think that's about the best I am going to do for these dates? I can cancel up to 24 hrs before with no penalty, so I booked that cuz I was getting a little panicked. Open to your suggestions if you think I can do better. And big thanks for your help!
AaronJB Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 I see what appears to be the 4.5* New York Palace Hotel for $291 (the price you see may vary slightly) on HOTWIRE. Are you seeing any listings of interest on PRICELINE Express? Let us know if the potential NYC Palace would be of interest and we would be happy to point out the listing on HOTWIRE.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
DCisHome Posted September 20, 2015 Author Report Posted September 20, 2015 Apologies for the delay. I ended up booking the Sheraton for the $303 price I found online. It was fine but the elevators were SUPER slow and really crowded.
