tbeard34 Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Hi all, I am trying to book a hotel in Malmo Sweden for December 31 - January 6. I want to name my own bid, but I have never used this before on Priceline. My fear is that I'm going to end up outside of the Malmo core, when I need to stay within downtown Malmo. I don't want to be commuting in from Lund, for example. Basically, how reliable is the area map for the name your own price? For Malmo it just shows me a green circle, so can I trust that any hotels I bid on are within that circle? Thank you so much everyone for the help.

tbeard34 Posted September 17, 2013 Author Report Posted September 17, 2013 OK I've clicked on both links. FWIW - I'm trying to go super cheap on the hotel bid and go for like 60USD a night. Something comparable to a hostel in Malmo.
yellowdog Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 I never thought I would say this but I'm local to Malmo :D I looked at the zone and you can trust the boundry. You will not get a hotel in Lund etc. You'll be close to the core even if you get the outskirts of the zone.12/31 looks to be a busy date so don't wait to long with your booking. What is you purpose with your stay in Malmo? (if you don't mind that I ask)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Yellowdog.
tbeard34 Posted September 17, 2013 Author Report Posted September 17, 2013 Thank you so much Yellowdog. I am coming for the World Junior Hockey Championships!!I going to book by the end of the week, but I really want to try and get a good hotel deal before I resort to a hostel.
yellowdog Posted September 18, 2013 Report Posted September 18, 2013 Your dates are going to be busy since you have 12/31 included. Keep us updated and just post if you need any help. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Yellowdog.
Romelle Posted September 20, 2013 Report Posted September 20, 2013 New Year's Eve is so different from more usual nights that you might want to consider splitting your bid and doing that one separately. Priceline tries to average rates across multiple nights, but when there isn't availability for all the nights a bid won't work no matter how high it is. I checked your dates one at a time on Hotwire. Unusual results. For all 6 nights the "average" rate was higher than any of the individual nights? I'd expected to see 12/31 much higher than any of the other nights, with the six night rate being somewhere in the middle.Romelle
