meltingfork
Hello,I am going to be in New York this weekend, and have been looking through multiple sites online, but have not found anything for under $280 a night. It seems like it's going to be a packed weekend in New York.Anyway, i am looking for suggestions or a strategy as to how to bid on priceline. Also, maybe some of you know of a nice hotel that's available. It would be for Friday (10/14) and Saturday (10/15) night, checking out on Sunday 10/16. I would like to pay in the low $200s a night, and if possible i am looking for somewhere in the lower East side ie. Greenwich Village, but will settle with just about anywhere (ie. Midtown, etc). Thanks,Erick Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! If you let us know your maximum bid we'll suggest a strategy for you to try.Is price more important than a 4* over a 3*? Is the Downtown/Financial District zone accepable to you? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
meltingfork
Maximum bid would be $220-$230 (+tax). I know it's last minute and many hotels seem to be booked already, so i would ultimately settle for a 3*, especially for a better location. The financial district will also be acceptable. Thanks in advance,Erick Link to comment
thereuare
So it sounds as if you prefer to try your maximum for a 4* first. You have two re-bid zones available at the 4* level, if you're not familiar with re-bidding please read PRICELINE RE-BIDDING EXPLAINED and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding. This is how i would begin...Select 4* Financial...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select Financial and UM/CPS...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select MTW and MTE...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select MTW and MTS...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select Financial and UM/CPS and MTS...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select MTW and MTE and MTS...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select MTE, MTW, UM/CPS, MTS, Financial...Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $230.If the above fails we'll then move onto a 3* strategy.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. meltingfork
Thank you for all your help.Unfortunately i am gone through all these options, with no success. So how do i now move on to the 3* strategy? Is the dollar amount going to be the same? Also, am i risking to stay in a "bad" 3* hotel by pricelining? Thanks for your feedback.Erick Link to comment
thereuare
See this NYC HOTEL thread for a current discussion regarding 3* hotels in the various priceline zones (another user just asked the same question). If you decide that you want to try for the 3* let us know and we'll suggest a strategy. meltingfork
so are you suggesting that i avoid MTS, MTW and MTE to avoid the "bad" hotels in case my 3* hotel bid gets accepted?anything would help at this point so i can secure a hotel. thanks!erick Link to comment
thereuare
I wasn't suggesting your not bid 3*, but you asked if there were any 'bad' hotels at the 3* level, and at least according to the user in the other thread, there are hotels that s/he would try to avoid.I'm sure to some their great deals and to others they don't like them, but you have to decide if you're willing to stay at any of the 3* hotels in each zone.If you do want to bid the 3* level we'll suggest a different strategy, as you only have one re-bid zone at the 3* level.I also just had a look at Hotwire for your dates and there is a 4* in the MTE zone (likely the Grand Hyatt, but also possibly the Inter-Continental) for $236/nite as well as a 3* in the MTE zone for $159 (likely the Roosevelt)... if you don't want to spend the higher price for the Grand Hyatt maybe the likely Roosevelt (reviews here) is better than a totally random 3* on Priceline? (or maybe you'd like to try Priceline anyway)So as you can see you do have some options. thereuare
Glad we could help and it ultimately worked out for you... at a reasonable rate! You're not too far from Ess-A-Bagel either (51st St and Third Ave) which i highly recommend for an inexpensive breakfast... one of the best bagels in the city.Enjoy your stay.
