Hi guys,

Totally new to this forum and need some bidding advice. I would like to visit NYC from Dec 11 to 16 and am looking to stay in the Soho-Tribeca area. I've had bids up to $170 a night rejected. Is my price range too low? What would be some good prices for me to bid at? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

What star rating have you bid up to $170 for? I think you're probably looking at $220-240+ (depending on zone) for a 4* for these date/s, although you certainly have time to try lower bids first.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

I bid up to 4 stars for those dates. I just checked out Priceline's most recent winning bids and it says that someone won a 4.5 star hotel in the Soho-Tribeca area for $176 a night for these dates. Can any of you guys identify this hotel?

Thanks!

It's not clear from your post... did you most recently bid up to $170 or $200? Did you only bid Soho-Tribeca or also include Downtown and/or MTE?

Note that PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in the Downtown zone for $199/nite. Use the discount code link in my signature for an extra 10% off and this brings the nightly rate down to $179/nite (Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center)... would this work for your plans and budget?

Yes this would definitely work for my plans and budget! Would you happen to know which hotel this might be??

FYI I most recently bid up to $170. I included Soho-Tribeca, Downtown, MTE, Central Park South and Chelsea.

Sorry one more question, I am on the verge of purchasing the offer you mentioned. Do you think $179/night is a good deal for a 4 star hotel in downtown for those dates?

I'm really hoping the hotel is the Andaz Wall Street. What are the chances of that?

Thanks!

Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your stay, but historically this is the last weekend of the seasonally expensive holiday season, so i do think this is a good deal. If you came a week later rates would be somewhat cheaper, but based upon current rates for your current dates, this would be a good deal, imo.

Bidding update: Tried with a $200 bid for a 4.5 star hotel in the Soho-Tribeca area in the hopes of winning either The James or The Soho Grand but was unsuccessful.

FYI I looked up pictures of the Marriott Downtown (which is supposedly the $199 express deal on Priceline) but was not excited about the bland corporate looking decor so I'm holding off on that for now. I'll try to keep bidding up to $240 for my Soho hotel and if I'm still unsuccessful I'm going to just go with the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal.

Thanks for all the feedback and advice guys. I really appreciate it! :)

While nobody can say if prices will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay, i wouldn't expect this $199 Downtown hotel to be offered forever... while you continue to bid and hope for lower prices in the Soho zone, this Downtown property could disappear entirely (and the discount link code in my signature for an extra 10% off PRICELINE EXPRESS deals expires 9/16).

I pulled the trigger and went with the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal. AaronJB called it. It's the Marriott Downtown. Total cost for 5 nights (including trip insurance) after applying the coupon code was $1131.10. I hope it's a good hotel.

FYI I bid up to $250 for my Soho hotel and was still getting rejected so I gave up.

Update: I just called the hotel to confirm my reservation and they told me they could not find it

I called PRICELINE and they told me that it takes up to 72 hours for the reservations to show up in the hotel's system. Is this normal? I have never made reservations through PRICELINE so I wouldn't know but 72 hours seems excessively long to me.
