floydff Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 My wife and I are going to Las Vegas next month, for the first time, to celebrate her birthday. We are going to stay from a Monday night through a Friday night. I know that Fridays and Saturday nights are often double the cost of weeknights in Las Vegas. I have bid (and won)on rooms several times in the past on Priceline. It seems like they always send me a follow-up email asking if I want to purchase additional nights at the same price. What I am wondering from other people who have won bids on Priceline for Las Vegas- did you receive an email with an option to purchase an additional night at the same price? I'm thinking that if I just try to bid on a 5* room for a Monday night through a Thursday night, a lower bid will be accepted. If an additional night does not get offered, I would hate to have to change hotels for that last night.Thank you in advance for your input/advise!
AaronJB Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)There's not a standard increase for Friday/Saturday - one weekend may be much busier than the next. Additionally, there's no way to know if the service will offer the ability to extend your stay (and may offer, but at a higher price.) Bidding is really on a case-by-case basis. What would be your desired budget per night and date/s of travel?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 If rates for the Friday nite are higher then for the rest of your stay (which is not a sure thing but would seem likely more often then not) and the extend your stay option is offered, you will not receive the room for the additional nite(s) at the same rate. When you try to extend the stay PRICELINE will come back with one of three responses:1) you have successfully extended the stay2) rooms are available but only at $xx (and you're then given the option to pay the increased rate for the additional nites or not)3) no rooms available at any priceGiven your scenario above, and rooms are indeed available for the extra nite, then you will receive back response #2 above. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. floydff Posted September 10, 2013 Author Report Posted September 10, 2013 We are going to be there from 10/14 until 10/19. I will bid as much as required to get a 5* room in the Strip North, to avoid the concern another person had about getting the Vdara in the South. Another person (SteelCore) made a post on 8/21 that confuses me, since their zone descriptions are completely different than what I see on Priceline (they said there were no 5* hotels in Zones 8 or 9, and they wanted Zone 2 to get "Strip North"?). So, I am hoping to get a reply to that post before I mess up.
thereuare Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 The other user's bidding zones doesn't make much sense to me either, so i wouldn't concern myself too much with it, and we'll try to detail a strategy for you to follow in this thread where you can ask any questions that you may have. When bidding 5* in Las Vegas you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 5* Strip North...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140If the above is rejected, HOTWIRE has a 5* hotel in the Strip North for $141/nite (your price may differ slightly) with:Resort Free Parking Suite Casino Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Golf Tennis Spa Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ... best guess for this one would be the Venetian or the Palazzo and i'd go with this if your PRICELINE bidding up to $140 is rejected.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. floydff Posted October 21, 2013 Author Report Posted October 21, 2013 I just wanted to close out this thread, and let the Moderators know that I didn't bypass their links. Treasure Island ended up having a "TV Special" rate. Our room rate started at $69 + tax, and there was NO Mandatory $28 (or so) daily resort fee. There was some kind of extra-large convention in town, and some of the hotels were sold out, so the PRICELINE / HOTWIRE rates had quickly increased. I won't stay in Treasure Island again, or even risk having to stay there, because the cigarette smoke that you are forced to travel through from the entry to the elevators is always pretty bad. Since it is such an irritant to me, and I literally had a bloody nose by the end of the trip, we'll stay at a non-smoking, non-casino resort next time and just gamble in the really nice casinos that have better ventilation (such as Bellagio).
thereuare Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 Glad to see you found something that worked for your needs and budget, but sorry you had a rough stay due to the smoke. Thanks for closing this thread with your decision and hope you enjoyed Las Vegas.
