Priceline Hotel: need bidding strategy for NYC 09/22-09/26

I'd want to book a 4* for less than 190 USD or a 3* for less than 160 USD from september 22 to september 26. Acceptable areas are:

Central Park South

Chelsea Area

Empire State Building Area

Hell's Kitchen

Lower East Side

Madison Square Garden - Convention Area

Midtown East

Midtown West

Queensborough Bridge

SoHo - Tribeca

Times Square - Theatre District

The UN is in session during these dates and this always causes a BIG spike in rates... have you checked prices for your dates already thru traditional booking channels? At current rates I don't think your maximum bid prices above are in the right ballpark for these dates... using our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com, what is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels for a 3.5* or better hotel in one of these zones?

Tank you for your help! I thought that there must be some special event, as i never saw prices like this when trying to book nyc accommodation.

Indeed, the cheapest 3.5*+ room in these areas starts at 378 USD/night.

To still have a chance to make it happen, i could bid an extra 20 USD per night, consider adding lower east side and financial district to the search and also going down to a 2.5* minimum level. Do you think any of this would make sense?

I think even with an additional $20 2.5* is going to be difficult for these date/s. The cheapest option on HOTWIRE is a 2.5* in Central Park West for $246. The cheapest non-Central Park listing on HOTWIRE is a 2* in MSG for $284.
