Coltrane Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Hi. Newbie here just found this board. (Glad I did).Have been bidding 3X per day last 2 days for 1 night 09/28/13 Grand Hyatt Kauai. No hits.Bids have ranged from $165 to $191. I have a cancelable backup hotel so I'm not panicking.Just learned about Hotwire today and have seen their "secret hotel' deal range from $211 to $216. Priceline Express has been steady at $219. Have checked coupons on Priceline but none of them have worked.Just wondering since I'm new at this. Anything else I should be trying?
Coltrane Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 Hi. New to this board so apologies if the topic's been covered or if I'm posting in the wrong place. Have been trying for a while to get the Hyatt Grand Kauai 9/28 and 9/29 for under $200. Hotwire rates have ranged from $216 to $211 over the last 3 days. Priceline express has been pegged at $219. (Have also had bids refused up to $196).This morning I went into Hotwire and they have a promo: $10 off Hotel Room. 3 Days only. Now mind you... 15 minutes earlier I'd been in and seen the Grand Hyatt Kauai at $216.OK. I bite. I go in and download the coupon. Then I go back into hot Wire. Guess what? Grand Hyatt Kauai is now $221! Aaahhh ya' gotta love it.
thereuare Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.HOTWIRE uses a variable mark-up when they price hotels so it's not uncommon to see rates change slightly form one search to the next... i don't believe this is related to you now having a coupon to use.Where and how much is your back-up hotel? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases (or our BiddingHelper.com) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Coltrane Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 I'm sorry about the mixed posts. I'd intended to start a new topic regarding the coupon. My fault.Backup hotel is near the Lihue Airport $81.37 including tax. Will be arriving late and deeply jet lagged so don't mind just finding a place to crash for the night. Will be staying at the Grand Hyatt a few days starting the 29th on promotional credits.Arriving a day earlier was a last minute thing.Am justifying incremental expense between crash hotel at airport and staying at Kauai Grand Hyatt as price paid for not packing up and moving and hanging around the resort before the 3PM check in.
thereuare Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Well the PRICELINE EXPRESS and HOTWIRE rates are not that far off from your previously failed bids... keep us updated on your progress and let us know if we can be of further help along the way. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Coltrane Posted September 3, 2013 Author Report Posted September 3, 2013 I'll post up the win report in the hot Wire section - where it belongs - but wanted to close out this thread.Priceline absolutely would not budge on this trip.HotWire express posted a rate of $207 which along with the $10 off coupon they're offering got me within my target. So... I took it. My one regret is now I'll never know what would have happened if I'd taken the bidding down to the wire. ;) Thanks all.
Coltrane Posted September 3, 2013 Author Report Posted September 3, 2013 First time using Hotwire. Got $207 per night Express Rate quote and used the $10 off promotional coupon they sent me yesterday.
