spectrum Posted October 5, 2005 Report Posted October 5, 2005 Hi guys,I tried to bid on a 4* in Baltimore Inner Harbor area for Nov. 7-11. I started from $70 and worked upto $99 (didn't rebid further). Now I know some people have got these for $80. Any ideas why prices are higher for that period of time? Thanks
thereuare Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!I can't say why, but hotel-direct rates are definately higher than usual for the above stay... and this often translates to higher 'opaque' rates and touger availabilty. Is SPLITTING YOUR BID and option? spectrum Posted October 6, 2005 Author Report Posted October 6, 2005 Thanks thereuare. Well, of course I'd rather stay at the same hotel. However, if the price is going to be above $110 per night I'll consider splitting.btw, do you guys have any particular strategies/suggestions for splitting? My stay is from Mon. to Fri.
thereuare Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Do you want to try bidding up to $110 first and then trying to split or are you already at your limit that you would want to try splitting first?Let us know and we'll take a closer look at the dates to see if and/or where the best possible split should be. spectrum Posted October 7, 2005 Author Report Posted October 7, 2005 Well, I think I'd wait a week or two before splitting. I'll try rebidding next week. Maybe it's just related to priceline inventory. In that case I'll prefer to wait and get it for a price between $80-$100 per night. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
spectrum Posted October 7, 2005 Author Report Posted October 7, 2005 Ok guys,Following my earlier post where I couldn't get a 4* upto $100 in this region, I decided to give it anothertry today. I started with $80 on a 4* in Inner Harborarea and got accepted on the first bid. The hotel isPier 5 (hmm, tripadvisor rates it as a 3* :) ). Ipreferred Renaissance since I'm attending a conferencethere or one of the other two major brands (Marriotwaterfront or Hyatt). Anyway, has any of you guys beento this Pier 5 before?btw, seems like they have updated the inventory justtoday since I got rejected yesterday.ps. staying 11/07-11/11

spectrum Posted October 21, 2005 Author Report Posted October 21, 2005 Just one day after my post about Pier 5 being downgraded to 3*, TOBB has updated its hotel list. Isn't it hilarious how they monitor here? :)
