WanderlustTraveler Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Hi,I am planning a last-minute trip to NYC this Thursday (8/29) through Saturday (8/31). I have successfully bid using Priceline before, getting a room at the Roosevelt Hotel (4-star) for $100 per night in March 2012. Do prices on Priceline usually drop lower for last-minute deals? Is this rate reasonable during a summer/holiday weekend for the same/similar hotel? From just an initial look, it seems that similar hotels are not going for this low. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Sharing any prior wins (as separate threads) would be greatly appreciated, as the information does still help others. As the year goes, March is generally within the slowest period of the year, so $100 for a 4* is not unheard of. August is generally more expensive and rate/s have been going up noticeably year/over/year. Purchase timing is discussed in the FAQ. What would be your desired budget per night for this stay - additionally, what zone/s would be acceptable?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted August 26, 2013 Report Posted August 26, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet please start by reading your messages. It's not necessarily true that rates drop closer to the check-in date (sometimes they go up) but with 3 days to go i think you're already 'last minute' and wouldn't expect any dramatic change if you were to wait.Generally speaking rates have been increasing year-over-year as economic conditions have been improving over the years (as business travel has been picking up from the very bottom of the recession). While $100 is not likely enough for a 4* hotel for your dates, rates are not too bad and depending upon your acceptable zones you should be able to get something in the $115-$135 area.HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the ESB zone for $124/nite (with Boutique, Restaurant, Laundry) which i'm guessing to be the King and Grove... would this work for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
