Sabby Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 I came across this forum while going through the Priceline bidding process and reading help material on the web.I think i can ask for help here.I am looking for a a night stay in Cape Cod area (Yarmouth, Hyannis, Sandwich etc.) preferably walking distance to beach. My primary motive is to get a decent room (1-star as a back up) for $60-$80 and have it a decent location.Prices seem to be around $125 and higher. Checked the zones- Except Brewster/Chatham, the other 7 have 2-star options.I havent started the bidding process yet and was hoping for some guidance from the forum members.I also understand i can re-bid after 24 hours and some bids are accepted right away?Much thanks.
AaronJB Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. Please provide the date/s of travel. Additionally, which zone/s would be acceptable? You have to be willing to stay *anywhere* within the zone.If a bid is not accepted, then you cannot make that specific bid again for 24 hours.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Sabby Posted August 23, 2013 Author Report Posted August 23, 2013 My apologies AaronJB. Night of 31st August 2013, checking out 1st Sept,2013 morning. When you say zones- does it mean the listed "areas"? If so, there were 9 in cape cod, and I would much prefer Yarmouth, Chatham, Hyannis and Dennis port.Yup willing to stay anywhere. We've tried Red Roof Inn before (in North Carolina), was comfortable & nice, and looks like it is 1-star hotel. So hoping 2-stars+ would be better. I also should mention we're 4 of us, and I am looking for 2 rooms in the same hotel.

Sabby Posted August 27, 2013 Author Report Posted August 27, 2013 Much thanks thereuare. My housemate followed through your advice while i was away for the weekend.Unfortunately, all our bids failed. I knew we were pushing our luck :).Anyways, I believe the next step would be to inch up $5 dollar with each bid and follow the same procedure as outlined?
AaronJB Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 I'd go higher by $2-3 each time.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 You're facing an uphill battle with this one... you want only one nite in the middle of a holiday weekend in a seasonal summer destination. Many hotels in this area may have minimum night requirements for this weekend and some may sell-out on their own... there is not a lot of incentive for hotels to discount too deeply (if at all) if they feel they can sell the majority of their rooms on their own at full price.Using MAPS and HOTELS.com what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Sabby Posted August 27, 2013 Author Report Posted August 27, 2013 Thanks for the MAPS and HOTELS.com link. The best price available right now is $129. And all the choices showing up are 1* and 2*.I always knew this would be an uphill task, especially since its Labor day and summer is short in New England.
thereuare Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 So given the best alternate rate at $129/nite, what would be your maximum bid for an 'opaque' hotel? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Sabby Posted August 27, 2013 Author Report Posted August 27, 2013 Try $90 and go up to $110. Beyond that, I'll throw in the towel. What do you think?
AaronJB Posted August 27, 2013 Report Posted August 27, 2013 What hotel is the $129 rate at in terms of name/star rating?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
