Hello

I'm from Europe and planning a visit to Chicago from Saturday 10/26 'till Wednesday 10/30. I read that it's best to book last-minute for Saturday-arrivals, is that right?

I tried to book 4.5* hotels for $110 but that didn't work out yet. Do you think I have a chance of getting this price last-minute? Or will I have to lower my hotel-selection to 4*?

And does anyone can tell me which areas are easy accessible by public transit/shuttles... from Chicago O'Hare AND Midway AND have a good connection to The Loop? Probably the North Michigan Av and the The Loop area will be the only ones?

Thanks for helping.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay... it all depends upon supply/demand (ie- how new reservations/cancellations come in relative to current expectations). For more on this subject you can see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ, but your budget is more likely in line with a 4* hotel then a 4.5* property

For a 4 nite trip i would recommend booking zone(s) that work well for your plans while in the city and are convenient to the things you want to do while visiting... not easy access to/from the airport. If need be you can always take the train to any location 'downtown' and then take a taxi (or other form of transit) the final distance to/from your hotel.

The NMA zone has more restaurants and active at nite... the Loop zone is closer to the museums and can get a bit quiet at nite, although neither is very far from the others.

The above should be enough to get you started/thinking, and i'm sure AaronJB who is local to the area will provide further advise once he sees this thread.

In terms of PRICELINE:

River North-NMA - This area includes the restaurant-and-nightlife heavy River North area, the NMA area and the Gold Coast area, as well as Navy Pier. Some hotels on the East side of this zone are a walk to the subway, but a straightforward walk. The W Lakeshore and Sheraton are the furthest from transit.

Millennium-Loop-Grant Park. Most hotels are a bit closer to the subway. This area is closer to museums and offers some shopping, but is quieter later at night.

Lincoln Park - this would be a secondary choice if you are not able to find anything reasonable downtown. This is an area to the North of the city that offers a wide variety of restaurants and shopping, as well as the Zoo.

McCormick-Medical District - I wouldn't recommend this zone, but it's a third option. South of the city, this area is inconvenient and really not optimal from a tourist perspective.

This is generally a busier period of the year and rates are high, but you actually don't look too far off - I see what appears to be the Thompson Chicago for $128 on HOTWIRE - this property was the Sutton Place and is currently being renovated (it reopens in October.) Let us know if this hotel would be of interest and we would be happy to point it out on HOTWIRE. This hotel is in the Gold Coast area - that's not a central area downtown, but it's a very nice area - it's a couple of minutes walk to the top end of the Michigan Ave area and a couple of minutes walk to the subway.

On HOTWIRE, I see what appears to be the Hyatt on Wacker for $124 (much more central, although I think the Thompson is a nicer hotel option).

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

We ended up booking at the Westin O'Hare for 117 a night, which was a good deal in my opinion (could have been slightly better, but I'm happy!). The hotel was located pretty close to the L and we were in the city center in around 30 minutes.
