yellowdog Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!Thanx for using boards HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links :) Please change the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.Using the method above what is the room rate per nite in US Dollars?Yellowdog.

yellowdog Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 4* Rome East - Tiburtina HotelI think there may be more amenities associated with this property. If you go back to HOTWIRE and click this offer to get to the details page, then on the details page click the 'See all' link under the amenities, do you see more than what you've posted above? If you don't see anymore amenities so try this,HOTWIRE has a new interface which is not currently showing the complete set of amenities at the usual point of the search process. This workaround has been successful in order to see the complete set of amenities:· use this link to search HOTWIRE· from the search results page click the offer for this hotel· on the next page click BOOK NOW (no worries about purchasing by accident since no credit card information is entered up to this point)· on the left side of the page click the 'See all amenities' linkThis should show you the full list of amenities associated with each offer.Yellowdog.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.

ckryptor Posted August 20, 2013 Author Report Posted August 20, 2013 This is my first time in Rome. I am going with my father so i would like a decent hotel (4 star and up or if 3 star good ratings). I would like to be close to the major attractions - which area should i be looking at? I don't mind being far from the attractions as long as im living close to the metro or train and these attractions are accessible by them. Please help me find an area and a decent hotel. Thank you
Romelle Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 For "a decent hotel", watch those ratings. You can see them with PRICELINE EXPRESS and HOTWIRE. If you opt to go bidding via PRICELINE, you can see the possible hotels in a zone with the Hotel Lists (up above left in the banner), and then you can look at Hotel Reviews (last area on this site and/or www.tripadvisor.com).You can zoom way in on the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE zone maps and see the metro and train stop points. Rome's metro is not as robust as that of other major cities. It is basically just a big X of two lines. I understand they have tried to have more lines but keep running into antiquities when they dig. There also is a very workable bus network but it takes a little research and a really detailed city map to use it. Generally speaking, if you are staying at a major hotel in the inner area of a major city, the public transport options will be available within an average person's walking distance. Further, there will be some sort of public transport in the area of the major amenities. I'd suggest you search on something like "Rome top 10 tourist attractions" and note them on a map. This will help you define possible areas. Termini is wonderfully central, if a little scruffy. The other inner core zones are also handy, although all of them are of course somewhat more expensive than further out. Also, check out a stack of Rome guide books from your public library. There are many of them, and different ones work for different people. I tend to favor the Lonely Planet series, but I stray to Rick Steves and others every once in a while. European hotel star levels aren't quite the same as US (and I'm assuming Canadian) hotel star ratings. A 3* in Europe might be more like a 2 1/2 or 2* here. Generally speaking, 4*s are a safer bet in Europe. The 3*s and 3 1/2*s might work if you can see really good ratings or can get a fairly positive identification. Also, when looking at Hotwire and Priceline options, HOTWIRE can rate hotels a little more generously than PRICELINE, maybe a 1/2 star. Something to keep in mind when comparing offers. You don't mention a budget? And your father's age, or at least spryness?Do put a price on your time for those few precious days in an amazing city. Less time coping with public transport means more time seeing the attractions. A closer in hotel can be worth more to you.Romelle
thereuare Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Best guess/comments for each:4 Star Rome East - Tiburtina Hotel--> Novotel Roma La Rustica2 - 3 Star Hotel - Vatican City Area--> <no guess>3 - Termini Railway Station Area - 3 1/2 Star --> i'm not seeing this listing, are you still see it on your own search? The 3.5* hotel i see is nearly twice as much and has three amenities showing. If you're still seeing the above, how many rooms/adults/children are you including in your search? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.
