kruinc Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 I understand the early weekends of December to be extremely busy in NYC. Still, I bid from $150 to $250 for a few days... unsuccessfully. Using BetterBidding.com's PRICELINE links, I noticed a MTE 4-star offered on both HOTWIRE and PRICELINE Express at $283/$282. With tips and posted past wins listed here, the hotel was likely W New York. Since I like the W's location, I bid & re-bid a few times - I got a W accept at $270. Starwood online offers a comparable stay at the W New York for $394, so this is not a PRICELINE coup d'etat. Feels like a slight premium paid for booking a few months in advance. To avoid booking-remorse, I will stay clear of this sub-forum and future posts - last-minute wins for the same nights. Who am I kidding?!?Thanks BetterBidding!
AaronJB Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 Congrats on your success. :)Good deal for what is really one of the most expensive/busy periods of the year.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
kruinc Posted August 13, 2013 Author Report Posted August 13, 2013 This wins' bid history as follows. Perhaps I might have done better? >> All 4-star <<$215 - MTE + CPS$220 - Re-bid zone$225 - Re-bid zone$230 - + MTW$235 - MTW + TS $240 - Re-bid zone$243 - Re-bid zone$245 - + MTE$230 - MTW + CPS$232 - + TS$235 - + MTE$238 - Re-bid zone$242 - Re-bid zone$245 - + HKChecked Hotwire and Priceline Express (couple hours later). Identified 4-star on both offerings, likely W New York (MTE). I've enjoyed other W properties, so I increased my budget.$252 - MTE + Chelsea$255 - Re-bid zone$260 - Re-bid zone$265 - + CPS>> $270 - + TS << ACCEPTED
thereuare Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 As already noted, this is a very expensive time of year in NYC and you did save $100+ per nite off of a conventionally booked room at this property, so not sure how much better you could have done (plus a previous bid at $265 which included this zone was rejected, so i don't think you could have done too much better at this time)You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
kruinc Posted August 14, 2013 Author Report Posted August 14, 2013 You mods are great, thank you for additional assurance. I look forward to trying the bagels too!
