Marylm13 Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 Hi there,I'm looking for a hotel ideally in the Times Square Area for August 25-28. Star Range 4-5 stars and max budget is around $200. I don't want to spend more because I will be driving and parking will be a whole extra expense. If this price is unfeasible, I wouldn't mind staying in the financial district, 4-5 stars (especially W hotel which is the only 4.5 star level (Guaranteed bid?). Please let me know what advice you have on bidding for these choices on priceline. Many thanks & Awesome Forum!!
thereuare Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 I'm looking for a hotel ideally in the Times Square Area...Welcome to BetterBidding! (and thanks for the compliments on the site :) )Above do you mean that you're only interested in bidding PRICELINE Times Square-Theatre District zone... or are other zones near Times Square, such as MTE, MTW, CPS, MSG, ESB, Chelsea, etc. also acceptable? Are you willing to pay more for a 5* vs. a 4.5* vs. a 4* OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better for this trip? Please clarify and we'll advise/comment further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Marylm13 Posted August 13, 2013 Author Report Posted August 13, 2013 Thanks for the speedy reply!Im interesting in Times Square at the moment. My maximum bid is $200 ideally for more than four stars but I am willing to pay 200 for 4* if it isnt possible for higher. Furthermore, if im not able to get a hotel in times square for that price and star levels, i wouldnt mind financial district 4.5-5* and again maximum 200$.Thanks for your help!
AaronJB Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 The W is not a guaranteed bid at the 4.5* level in the downtown area - it is the only 4.5* reported to the board in that zone. There may very well be others or ratings for other hotels can change at any time.If you are not able to get a Times Square property, do you not have any interest in staying in the zone/s next to or near it? Midtown East and Empire State areas are showing 4*'s under $200 for these date/s on HOTWIRE and you could likely get a 4* in either zone for even less via bidding. While you know your plans, the downtown area is not exactly convenient for most tourist activities. While you may be able to get a 4* in TS for $200 or less (if not, I don't think it would require much more than $200), there are plenty of midtown options for under $200.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Marylm13 Posted August 13, 2013 Author Report Posted August 13, 2013 Thanks for the info. I checked priceline and the only hotel at 4.5* in financial district is the W. Is it very likely to change? Also, how do you suggest I approach the bidding for TS?Another note, Ive noticed some hotels in nyc only offer rooms with one full or one queen bed. Is it likely that I will get stuck in a room like that? I would prefer one king bed or two beds. Many thanks for all the advice!!
AaronJB Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 Many rooms in NYC have one full or queen bed - rooms in NYC are (with few exceptions) smaller than average, with some at the 3.5-4* level as small as 135-165 sq ft. At a number of hotels in NYC, King bed (when available) is a paid upgrade and PRICELINE/HOTWIRE reservations are not eligible for upgrades (although you can try asking at check-in.)Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 I checked priceline and the only hotel at 4.5* in financial district is the W.There is no way to confirm this with 100% certainty... the 'retail' side of PRICELINE and the 'bidding' side each use a different universe of hotels, so if you're looking at the retail listings to see what you may get when bidding, there are other hotels that are possible besides what you're seeing on the retail side. See the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.As well, even if we assume that this is the only 4.5* hotel, at any time a new hotel can be added to the system and/or a previously reported hotel could be upgraded/downgraded to the 4.5* level. The above is a moot point at the moment since you stated you're looking to first start at the 4.5* and 5* level in the Times Square zone only? If so:When bidding 5* in NYC you have TEN re-bid zones... at the 4.5* level you have SEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 5* Times Square...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 5* Times Square and re-bid zone6...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $173, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $178, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $183, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 5* Times Square and re-bid zone7...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $188, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $193, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $198, if rejected add re-bid zone6...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected you can close the browser, use this link to re-access PRICELINE, and re-try at the 4.5* level. If this too is rejected, PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4.5* property in the Times Square zone for $230/nite (Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center)... use the discount code link in my signature for 10% brings this down to $207/nite, if you prefer to spend the extra few dollars over your $200 budget in order to stay in Times Square. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
