melrew Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 We are planning a trip to London October 8-12 and I found a deal on Hotwire for a 5 star Westminster area hotel for $176(reg($459). Amenities listed are: Free Internet (<amenity names only please... not descriptions>) Smoke Free Rooms Restaurant(s) Laundry Facilities (self-service)Any ideas which hotel this is? I was thinking Hotel 41 maybe, but there is also another hotel in the same area for $236 listed as a condo. I have no idea which one that could be either, however, that is above our budget. I originally planned to bid on PL for a 4 star hotel(most wins I found for the area are around $100), but the $176 price for a 5 star has me re-thinking it. Especially if it turns out to be the Hotel 41. Is that a typical price for this area or do I need to jump on it quickly? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

melrew Posted August 14, 2013 Author Report Posted August 14, 2013 Unfortunately that hotel is no longer available on Hotwire for that price. I have bid on PL for the past several days up to $150 for a 5* in the Mayfair/Soho and Westminster area with no luck. We are mainly interested in the Westminster area. We only added the Mayfair/Soho area for a free re-bid. My question is, do the prices tend to drop as the date of travel approach (October8-11)? I have seen several wins for a 5* in Westminster for $90. We are willing to pay $200 a night (incl taxes and fees) for a 5*, but if there is a chance the price will go down we have time to wait for that instead of increasing our bid each day. We will also consider a 4*, but thought we might luck out and find a great deal on a 5* before we head down that road. Any suggestions?

I have seen several wins for a 5* in Westminster for $90.Rates are date specific so you can't really compare them. Everything is about supply and demand. We are willing to pay $200 a night (incl taxes and fees) for a 5*, but if there is a chance the price will go down we have time to wait for that instead of increasing our bid each day.I'm sorry to say that there's no general answer to your question since we can predict the supply/demand for the diffrent hotels. melrew Posted August 14, 2013 Author Report Posted August 14, 2013 Thanks for the quick response! I will continue to bid on a 5* and keep my fingers crossed. I will keep you posted with our plans.

melrew Posted August 21, 2013 Author Report Posted August 21, 2013 I won the 4* Park Plaza Riverbank London yesterday at a price of $147 per night. I was hoping to avoid this hotel, but it's nice enough. Just wasn't having any luck with a 5* so I switched to include 4* and had to go up higher than expected. Do I need to list this win somewhere else? I closed out of the window too quickly to see the amenitites. Sorry about that. Thank you again for all the help! One more thing, how do I find reviews for hotels on this site? I have looked and looked and can't seem to find it.
thereuare Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 Congratulations on your success! While not one of the hotels you had set out for, glad to see you're still pleased with the deal you received and for the price you can make this work for your needs.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. To confirm, did you win this by bidding OR from PRICELINE EXPRESS? If the latter, do you recall if there were two amenities shown (possibly Restaurant and Fitness)??
