AaronJB Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. The St Giles the Court has been seen with this amenity set previously so that would be my main guess. There is a SLIGHT chance of the Radisson Martinique if that hotel has changed amenity set since it was last reported to the board. My main note regarding this stay is that you are going during both a traditionally very slow period (12/23-29) and a much more expensive period (12/30-1/1, with NYE being one of the most expensive nights of the year. If you are willing to switch hotels, you may be able to get a better overall average rate - I'm seeing what appears to be the same ESB listing for $159 when searching for 12/23-29 only. There's a lot of combinations, but I'll throw out one example:4* ESB - $159 x 6 = $954 (12/23-29)4* MTE - $297 x 3 = $891 (12/29-1/1)$1845/9 = $205 per night - so about $25 less per night x 9 = $225 savings vs the 4* ESB for all 9 nights.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
willy570 Posted August 6, 2013 Author Report Posted August 6, 2013 Thanks AaronJB, that's a great suggestion. I am definitely open to switching hotels to achieve a better overall average rate. I will be sure to use the board's site links. If I located the same deal (for 12/29 to 1/1) as you, the 4 star MTE hotel you are referring to (90% recommended) has the following amenities:Pet friendly Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Tennis Nearby Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Did you have any thoughts on what this hotel could be? Also, if you were in my shoes would you book either of these deals or hold out in the hope that a better deal may pop up i.e. are the two deals (159 x 6 and 297 x 3) decent for this time of year? I have read the FAQs on the best time to book (and understand that you don't have a crystal ball!) but was just wondering if you had any thoughts / suggestions. I am happy to stay in MTE, MTW, Chelsea or ESB (and TS or Midtown Central should a really good deal be available). 3.5 stars plus is preferable. Perhaps I should make a couple of bids on PRICELINE and if I am unable to locate better rates I might book the offers you referred to. Thanks again!

AaronJB Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 My view is this: primarily, there is no way to know if rates will come down last minute. That has been happening less and less in the last few years as demand has gone up and rates have, as well. Rates can also stay at the same or go up towards the date/s if demand comes in.All that said, you have a period that *traditionally* has been fairly slow (the 12/23-29 or so period) and a period that is traditionally one of the busiest and most expensive periods of the year (NYE and a day or so prior.) If this year is like prior years, I would try to lock something in now for the period closer to NYE. You can wait and see if rates come down for the 12/23-29 period, but in comparison to prior years, I don't think there's tons of downside potential.I'd guess the 4* MTE you mention a few posts up is either the Grand Hyatt or Intercontinental Barclay.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
