alisonmp2 Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 Hello-I am looking around at hotels in the Wailea, HI area and noticed a Hotwire 4* with a 95% thumbs up rating available for 10/7-10/12 for $196, normally $309. I don't see any 4* hotels on the Hotwire list for Wailea. Someone recently posted another 4* hotel in Wailea but it had a resort fee and this listing does not. The information about it is below. Can someone tell me if it might be a downgraded 4.5* or an upgraded 3.5*, possibly? Thanks! thereuare Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet please start by reading your messages.I'm only seeing what i believe to be this property when searching for 2adults/2children... are you searching for something other than the default 2adults/0chidlren? Also, if you go back to HOTWIRE and click this offer, then on the ensuing page click the 'See all' link under the amenities, do you see more than what you've posted above? This is the full list that i'm currently seeing (and please post only the amenity names and not the descriptions as you can see how much easier it makes your post to read):Resort Free Parking Beachfront Fitness Pool Restaurant Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Golf Tennis Spa Childrens Activities Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking When following the method above do you see this complete list of amenities? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. alisonmp2 Posted August 6, 2013 Author Report Posted August 6, 2013 Hello-Odd, I get two different interfaces, one with Firefox and one with Chrome. The Chrome version allowed me to pull up the list you referred to while FF did not (I'd be happy to send you a screen shot of both so you see what I mean).I am entering 2 adults and 1 child when I search and yes, the list of amenities that you list are the same as what I see on Chrome. When booking, I'll be sure to use the proper links. We're island hopping and will also be staying in Poipu on Kauai (still need to book that one) and I am just watching to Hotwire pricing on what I believe to be the Grand Hyatt. I will also use the proper links for that one.Thank you,Alison
alisonmp2 Posted August 6, 2013 Author Report Posted August 6, 2013 One other note- Why would the number, assuming it is two adults w/child (would only need to queens versus one king) effect the hotels available and the star rating?Thank you,Alison
thereuare Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. Some hotels charge more for rooms with two beds (vs. a room with only one bed) OR more anytime there is more than double occupancy in the room (even if the additional guest(s) are children). Also, aving a reservation on the books as 'run of house' (meaning that the hotel room will be assigned at check-in) helps the hotel better manage their inventory better. Let's assume an extreme example where the hotel is sold-out except for one room that only has one bed in it, and the hotel gets a reservation request from somebody booking direct (and paying full price) that needs two beds in the room... if all other rooms are 'firmly assigned' then the hotel needs to turn away this guest, but if they can take a 'flex' run of house reservation where where the room has not been assigned, they can move that reservation to the room with only one bed and take on the new full paying guest that needs two beds. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. alisonmp2 Posted August 6, 2013 Author Report Posted August 6, 2013 Gotcha. Thank you for that clarification. Now, back to the original hotel. On the Hotwire hotel list, there are no 4* hotels in Wailea. Any idea what it would be?Thank you for all of you help!Alison
thereuare Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 With this full amenity list:Resort Free Parking Beachfront Fitness Pool Restaurant Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Golf Tennis Spa Childrens Activities Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking... my best guess would be the Makena Beach and Golf Resort upgraded to the 4* level since the last time it was reported to the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.
