Pasu Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 Hi, I'm looking for 2 rooms in the Midtown East or Times Square area for 3 nights. Maximum budget is $200 per room/per night (taxes included). We will be staying Aug 30 - Sept 2. Any help with bidding for a 4* on Priceline or selecting from Hotwire would be appreciated! I bid up to $165 yesterday with no luck. Does the number of rooms affect success rate? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 I think you're likely not too far off, especially for MTE (probably $175-185 is what is going to be required for MTE although you can try $170. Mildly higher for TS - which is generally the busiest/most expensive zone.)Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 ... and if you haven't yet please read your messages. Also, is there a reason you're only bidding MTE and TS... are other popular zones such as ESB, MSG, CPS not acceptable? Thanks. Pasu Posted August 5, 2013 Author Report Posted August 5, 2013 I stayed in the MTE area before and really liked it. We're open to CPS but figured it would be out of our price range.
thereuare Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 CPS may very well be out of your price range, but if it's an acceptable zone, you can use it in order to help maximize the number of bids you can make inside the 24 hour lock-out period... worse case scenario is that you're accepted in an acceptable zone that you previous thought was outside of your budget. Are any other zones besides MTE, TS, and CPS acceptable? Please confirm which zones you're willing to bid and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Pasu Posted August 6, 2013 Author Report Posted August 6, 2013 We're open to MTW as well. And I will gladly use the PRICELINE link on the board to begin my travel purchase. :)
thereuare Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 So to confirm, MTE, TS, CPS, and MTW are all acceptable? If so:When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE and TS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* CPS and MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and CPS...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* TS and MTW...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* CPS and TS...Bid $148, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $153, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and TS and MTW...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and TS and CPS...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $158, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and TS and MTW and CPS...Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $168Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Pasu Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 No luck with that strategy. Any other recommendations?
thereuare Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Can you increase your budget a little?HOTWIRE has what appears to be:4* King and Grove in the ESB zone for $171/nite4* Doubletree Chelsea in the MSG-HK zone for $178/nite... or can you can you add MSG and/or ESB to your bidding? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Pasu Posted August 9, 2013 Author Report Posted August 9, 2013 We can increase our budget to $230 per night but would prefer to keep the zones to the MTE, TS, CPS or MTW areas.
thereuare Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 I would move forward as follows:Select 4* MTE and TS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* CPS and MTW...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and CPS...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $183, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* TS and MTW...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $183, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $188, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* CPS and TS...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $188, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and TS and MTW...Bid $193, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $198, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and TS and CPS...Bid $193, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $198, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTE and TS and MTW and CPS...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $203, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205If the above is rejected PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in the MTE zone for $207/nite (Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center) which you can take. DO NOTE that i think this PRICELINE EXPRESS may be the ONE UN New York which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, so you would need to be 'ok' with this distance from the subway, but this property would also be a possible outcome in your bidding above since you're bidding the 4* level in MTE (so you would even need to be ok with this location when placing your bids above)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Pasu Posted August 9, 2013 Author Report Posted August 9, 2013 The One UN New York seems a little far. Perhaps we should look into ESB... Would you recommend the area? This is a first time NYC trip for the couple travelling with us.
thereuare Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 I would have no problem including ESB in my bidding, however, i took an even closer look at your dates and here are my thoughts:HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel in the MTC zone for $165/nite. This is closer to your original budget and (more importantly) has a 4.5/5.0 TA rating and 100% recommended by previous HOTWIRE guests, so the property gets excellent reviews. The amenities are:Pet Friendly Smoke Free Fitness Hi-Speed Internet ... best guess for this one would be the Cassa Hotel. I think this is the best 'bang for your buck' for this trip. And assuming we are correct with this guess, i wouldn't focus on the 3.5* rating by HOTWIRE as this is one of the rare situations where HOTWIRE rates a hotel lower than PRICELINE, as this property is currently 4* rated by priceline. As well, even if our guess should be wrong the hotel offered will have a very central location (simply by the central location of this zone) and you know it gets great reviews. You could try bidding on PRICELINE for a 4* hotel in this zone, but 1) your bids up to this price have already been rejected, and 2) you could receive a different 4* hotel in this zone (and the idea here is that you're targeting this specific offer based upon the TA reviews and the user recommendation by previous HOTWIRE guests)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Your thoughts?
