Jaded-Fan Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 I knew when I bid that this was the Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile, as it was the only 5 star hotel they listed on the part of the Hotwire site that you can pay for named hotels. Very happy with this $113 per night price, for 8 nights it ended up being under $1,100 when taxes and other costs were added. :) The place is a little modern for my taste, but the reviews were almost entirely 5/5 from the close to a thousand reviews that I saw, and the location can not be beat, next door to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, a block from a metro stop, across the street from Mount Royal Park, tons of fine restaurants and shops within a block or two. Here is a great review of the hotel:The ReviewWith excellent downtown views and a location at the corner of Stanley and Sherbrooke streets, the Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile puts guests in the heart of the city’s action. Mount Royal Park, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, McGill University and the restaurants and bars of Saint Catherine Street are all just a stroll, a quick cab ride or a metro stop away. The rooms may not be large (the basic room, Superior, is just 240 square feet), but what the Sofitel may lack in space it makes up for with comfort and a sleek approach. Each room has floor-to-ceiling windows, rich wood paneling, large closets, goose feather beds and pillows, and marble bathrooms with rainfall showerheads and L’Occitane products. Like the guestrooms, the plush lobby has floor-to-ceiling windows and plenty of light. You’d think this French-flavored hotel would be a tourist favorite, but it gets a lot of business travelers. (There’s 6,900 square feet of meeting space in five rooms.) The on-site Restaurant Renoir helps make up for this sometimes corporate vibe with a sunny, open atmosphere and classic French dishes — even an outdoor terrace for dining in summer. The locals are never big on breakfast, so avoid the overpriced morning menu and grab a latte and pastry nearby instead. The lobby itself is a wonderful hangout, with large, chic sofas, huge windows, splashy carpets and metallic staircases. You may feel a need to wear a suit as you sip pricey drinks in the hotel’s sleek glass and metal bar. Work it all off in the fitness room, which is better than the ones in most hotels this size, with lots of equipment and TVs. You can also opt to relax from a day of exploring the city and have a spa treatment or a facial in your room. With its oh-so-chic urban decor and somewhat corporate vibe, this Sofitel’s atmosphere is slightly more formal than a casual guest may prefer. The staff is more business than play, but you’ll still find the Sofitel to be an excellent home base for exploring everything that Montreal has to offer..— Matthew Linkhttp://www.jetsetter.com/hotels/canada/montreal/722/sofitel-montreal-golden-mileAnd USNews ranks it number 4 overall in Montreal in their travel rankings:http://travel.usnews.com/Hotels/review-Sofitel_Montreal_Golden_Mile-Montreal-Canada-18826/
