kmad85 Posted July 31, 2013 Report Posted July 31, 2013 I have had great success using strategies from Better Bidding for Las Vegas and am hoping to do the same for NYC. Since it's going to be a relatively lengthy stay, I would really appreciate some assistance. With what I have checked out on rebidding zones, I feel most comfortable shooting for a 4-start hotel any zone in Manhattan. Since my dates are between the New York Marathon and Thanksgiving, what is a reasonable price to expect? I'm hopeful for $150 a night. How realistic is that? I want to save as much money as possible in order to eat as much delicious food as possible!
kmad85 Posted July 31, 2013 Author Report Posted July 31, 2013 Okay - so I started off with this:Bid 105 for Times Square, rejectedBid 110, added Long Island City re-bid zone, rejectedBid 115,added Harlem re-rid zone, rejectedThen I saw my money flashing before my eyes and stopped.
thereuare Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding!I have had great success using strategies from Better Bidding for Las Vegas and am hoping to do the same for NYC.We're glad to hear the board has been helpful with your previous trip(s), but it's disappointing that this is your first post. Please begin to share your wins with the board so that the information can help others, just as you have been helped by those who have posted before you. ;)While not as busy as busy as NY Marathon dates or the days before Thanksgiving, this is still high season for NYC and at current rates a 4* hotel is going to cost you closer to $165-$185/nite then the levels you've been bidding. If you'd like help with a bidding strategy please list all acceptable zones, by PRICELINE name, as well as if you're able to increase your maximum bid, and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kmad85 Posted August 1, 2013 Author Report Posted August 1, 2013 Okay - tried another bidding strategy today, stayed at 4* rating120 Central Park South, rejected125 Added Times Square - Theater District, rejected130 Added rebid zone Long Island City, rejected135 Added rebid zone Morningside Heights - Harlem, rejected140 Added Midtown West, rejected145 Added Midtown East, rejected150 Added Empire State Building area, rejectedThinking of starting again tomorrow at about 140 with Downtown - Financial District then Madison Square Gardens because it seems like these are places that have Priceline Express and Hotwire listings.
thereuare Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 You can easily improve upon your bidding strategy, but for us to advise, i see that you have listed 13 zones as acceptable but so far have only bid on 5 of these zones... did you want to only bid for these 5 zones up to $175/nite before considering the other zones you have not yet included in your bidding, OR is the goal the least expensive 4* or better hotel in any of these 13 zones? Also, take a good look at the UES and UWS zones as they can go pretty far north which is not usually the most convenient location for the average visitor, so please confirm that both of these zones are indeed acceptable (perhaps cost is a concern and you'll deal with the less central location for the right price)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kmad85 Posted August 2, 2013 Author Report Posted August 2, 2013 Followed this strategy until I hit $155 - at this point I am going to do more research on PRICELINE and HOTWIRE 3* hotels before continuing.
AaronJB Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Thank you for keeping us updated and please let us know if you have additional questions.Unfortunately, the Fall and early Winter (late October through around mid-December) periods are expensive. This period is a little less expensive than the weeks directly around it, but rates are still going to be on the higher side. 11/17-20 are a little less expensive than 11/14-17 when looked at separately, but not substantially.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kmad85 Posted August 5, 2013 Author Report Posted August 5, 2013 Tried some bids on 3.5* up to 150 with no luck. Then followed strategy above up to $175 - no go. I'm going to wait and rebid on 3* hotels. Thanks for your help!
AaronJB Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 Sorry to hear that your bids weren't accepted. Thank you for keeping us updated and hopefully the next round of bidding will be successful.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kmad85 Posted August 13, 2013 Author Report Posted August 13, 2013 Used similar bidding strategy for 3* from 110 to 135 with no luck. However, booked a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for 155 per night and used the BIGCITY6 coupon making it about 140 per night. Booked the Holiday Inn Lower East Side. Excited!
