AP2250 Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 Trying to find a 4 star in Midtown on Priceline without luck for dates August 29 - September 2. No luck with bids up to $125. Wait or raise bidding price? Suggestions appreciated. Tx
yellowdog Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding :) I'm sorry to say that the inventory looks slim and the rates are on the higher side for your dates when looking at Midtown/DT zones. What is your max budget/night before tax/fee's?Would you be OK with a 3* to keep the rate around $125?Please read this link: Should i Bid Early or Close to Arrival Date Let us know your thoughts and we'll go from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Yellowdog.
thereuare Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 If you haven't yet, please read your messages.Using the filters of our Priceline Maps (view only 4* and above, the months of Aug and Sept only, +/- 3 months, and the midtown zones) you'll see that there have been very few winning bids at 4* hotels this year and under $125/nite... thus far $150 has been near the floor for this time of year. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. EricaG Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 Trying to find a 4 star in Midtown on Priceline without luck for dates August 29 - September 2. No luck with bids up to $125. Wait or raise bidding price? Suggestions appreciated. TxI might be able to shed a little light on this. Labor Day weekend every year is the date of Dragon*Con, a sci-fi/fantasy/comic convention that draws over 50,000 attendees. The conference takes place from Friday-Monday in Downtown Atlanta, and the 5 convention hotels (the major downtown ATL hotels--Westin, Sheraton, Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt) are generally booked solid many months in advance, as are most of the surrounding downtown hotels. Rooms are at such a premium that the con has some partner hotels in Midtown as well, and even the ones that aren't partners tend to book up, or, if they do have rooms available, they are much more expensive than normal. Moving away from Downtown, the Buckhead area MAY end up having some hotels for the full weekend. As of a few days ago, there was a 3* in Buckhead with rooms for $127/night on Hotwire for that Friday and Sat. night that I was watching, so perhaps that one could return? Friday and Saturday nights are usually the most difficult nights for finding a room, and we found one in Downtown through Hotwire for that Sunday night only (Sept. 1st) for $70/night that turned out to be the Omni at CNN Center (I posted that win within the last couple of weeks). So, all that to say: Labor Day weekend is always a tough time to find a hotel in Atlanta, and although you might luck up on a last minute deal in Midtown, I would definitely not count on it. Moving well away from the Downtown or Midtown (and probably even Buckhead) areas may be your only option for finding a good hotel at a reasonable price for that weekend. If there is any chance of changing your trip dates, you would be able to find MUCH better deals in those in-town areas on most any other weekend.Sorry for the not-so-happy news, but I hope it will be helpful.
thereuare Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 Thanks for the insight as to why higher then usual rates for these dates (and the alternate zone info)... i'm sure the OP will find it helpful, even if not the news they were hoping to hear. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.AP2250, if you haven't yet, please read your messages.Thanks. AP2250 Posted July 30, 2013 Author Report Posted July 30, 2013 The advice here is sound. Latest rejected Priceline bid for Midtown as well as Buckhead for a 4 star plus went has high as $140 a night. The Perimeter is looking better by the day.

Romelle Posted July 30, 2013 Report Posted July 30, 2013 Messages are indicated up in the dark blue area of the header - right side after your screen name. Usually there is a "0" there, but you should have some other number. I seem to remember there is a color change too, but I'd have to send a message to myself to trigger that.Romelle
dcsmith22 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I got lucky last year and was able to get a room at the Westin Peachtree Plaza during the con weekend through Hotwire. Was hoping to get lucky again this year, but so far no luck. I always book a cancellable room somewhere in hopes of getting into the downtown area. This year seems tougher than prior years. Still keeping my fingers crossed.
