AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. :)What would be your desired max bid per night for this stay?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
gambit_a
Thanks.I would say up to $175 (before taxes) would be my upper range.Another question - does PRICELINE prices get better closer to the date of arrival? Or is earlier the better? Link to comment
thereuare
As far as timing the bid see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.I do think you'll be successful at $165 or under, but if not, i have an alternate option for you...When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. bestenborstel
Thank you for this strategy. Why do you have to provide 2 re-bid zones for 4* hotel, please? Can I not choose one in my first go? Is this because of a 4* hotel, please?Thank you.Kind regardsBB Link to comment
thereuare
Not sure if you have an understanding of re-bid zones, so let's take a step backwards before moving forward.Have you seen/read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained? What do you think your two re-bid zones are? If you've read the above and are confused just post back and we'll break it down further for you. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bestenborstel
Dear thereuare, yes, I just saw the explanation for re-bidding. Sorry, I missed the point it was about a rebid. But for the first run, this should not be necessary, correct, please?Best regardsBB Link to comment
thereuare
I'm still not confident you have an understanding of re-bid zones, as they would be necessary in the strategy above... i'd suggest you confirm your re-bid zones with the board, or if you're confused, try this exercise:Start with the following...1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City, NY' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bestenborstel
Dear thereauare,Okay, maybe I am not. But I thought I read this article about re-bidding.My findings were this afternoon the following:CPS: 5, 4.5, 5CA: 4.5Downtown: 5, 4.5, 4ESBA: 5, 4.5, 4HK: 4;LES: 4MSG: 4ME: 5, 4.5, 4MW: 4.5, 5TSTD: 5, 4.5, 4UES: 5, 4.5., 4UPW: 4I used the zone names from hotwire. 5, 4.5, 4 are the stars that would be interesting for me. Can you enlighten me, please? Link to comment
thereuare
All of the information you need is directly on the PRICELINE bidding page... no where below does it suggest to use the zone names from HOTWIRE. For the time being forget about what zones/star ratings you want and follow the instructions below:Start with the following...1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City, NY' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from therePlease try again, following the instructions above, and if you don't get it right we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bestenborstel
Sorry, this came out when I followed your instructions. These information were collected via priceline.I did not take into consideration those zones i did not want to stay in. thereuare
We will break it down further...1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City, NY' and your dates, and click "GO".2) The first zone in the bidding list is Brooklyn3) Place a check mark next to this zone4) Scroll down the page to the star ratings5) What is the highest star rating that is 'clickable' (if it's blue it can be selected... if it's greyed-out it can not be selected)Let us know the highest star rating offered in the Brooklyn zone and we'll then take the next step. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.EDIT TO ADD:bestenborstel, just realized that you aren't the OP of this thread... please post in the current Priceline New York City Hotel thread you have for your own trip and we will continue this re-bid zone discussion there.. This thread will be reserved for whatever gambit_a chooses to do for this trip, please continue your previous thread so we don't hijack this thread (and more than it already has been) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
gambit_a
Hi there. Thanks again for the strategy. Unfortunately after 2 days of attempts, no dice. Went up to 165 and no luck. Based on other bids in and around this time, should I re-up my bid amount? and by how much? Link to comment
thereuare
I had stopped at $165 above as, iirc, there was a 4* hotel on HOTWIRE in the ESB zone for $166/nite, but that is no longer offered. If you want to bid up to your $175 i think that will be the difference between success/failure.You can re-try:Select 4* ESB and MSG...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea and MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MSG...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* ESB and Chelsea...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea and MSG and ESB...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea and MSG and MTE...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and ESB and MSG...Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $168, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and ESB and Chelsea...Bid $163, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $168, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Chelsea and MSG and ESB and MTE...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $173, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175Any questions feel free to ask. However, i'll also add that while slightly over your budget you may be interested in some of these as you can have a guess as to what you will receive for just a few dollars more than you intend on bidding:Affinia Shelburne for $181/niteDoubletree Metropolitan for $182/niteDoubletree Financial District for $134/nite (located DOWNTOWN but may be enough savings for you to consider that as an option)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Are the quotes for prices for the doubletree financial and affinia based on what you believe are the PRICELINE EXPRESS deals? Also, if that is the case, do you know what the HOTWIRE hotels would translate to in the area?thanks!
