mads_101 Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 Hello Looking to purchase accommodation for the balance of our stay.We have tried 4 star up to $250 and have had no luck. Any suggestions?4 star (could do 3.5, but wary that there are a few dodgy ones out there)MTW, CPS, TS. Just need something with a decent location for tourists and close to transport. Also happy to do a hot deal or similar on hotwire etc. Thanks for your help
AaronJB Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay? Are you seeing any listings of interest that fit within your budget when searching on HOTWIRE?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
mads_101 Posted July 19, 2013 Author Report Posted July 19, 2013 Thanks for your help. Our max budget is about $290/night including taxes. This usually gives us about $250/night to play with. Haven't seen anything interesting particularly.
thereuare Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 I think you would have success if you included MSG and MTE in your bidding... are these zones not acceptable? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mads_101 Posted July 19, 2013 Author Report Posted July 19, 2013 Happy to do that. Isn't there a pretty big chance we could end up quite out of the way if we included those though?
thereuare Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Most consider the the 'known' 4* hotels to be centrally located... it's when you get to the 3.5* hotels in the MTE zone that location becomes an issue for some properties.EDIT TO ADD: it looks like the One UN New York has been upgraded to the 4* level and this hotel would be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... is this too far 'out of the way'?If you'd like to have more of a guess as to what you may receive these are some of my guesses for some of the current HOTWIRE offers: New Yorker Ramada Plaza for $253/niteDoubletree Metropolitan for $263/niteAffinia Shelburne for $261/nite (which would also help you avoid needing to change hotels)Let us know if you want to try to target one of the above via HOTWIRE, or if you'd like to try bidding, let us know if both/either MTE and MSG are now acceptable in the bidding. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mads_101 Posted July 22, 2013 Author Report Posted July 22, 2013 Thanks. The UN One is a bit out of the way, and has pretty mixed reviews so we're not that keen on it.I have found a 3 star hotel in CPS for $225 with a 90% review rating. Any clues? $314 other sites*Smoke Free Rooms High-Speed Internet Access Kitchenette Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Roll-in shower Otherwise there's a 3.5 star in TS with 90% review rating for $240. Any clues on that one? Smoke Free Rooms, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Accessible for the blind<amenity names only please... not descriptions>In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Roll-in shower Cheers
thereuare Posted July 22, 2013 Report Posted July 22, 2013 I don't have a guess for the MTC property (there is no CPS on HOTWIRE, i assume you meant MTC??)For the TS property are there also Deaf Accessible and Travel Accessible amenities? If so, best guess for this one would be the Belvedere. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. mads_101 Posted July 23, 2013 Author Report Posted July 23, 2013 I'm not sure what's happnening on 22-25 October but the prices in the Midtown area (and surrounds) are extortionate. We're thinking of breaking up the accommodation to save some money with a few days in the financial district and then we're trying to get the affina for the remainder (although it is still $60 more/night than what we paid for the following 5 days).Downtown - 22 Oct - 25 Oct I've found the following on priceline:4 Star Hotel in Downtown - Financial District Area for $224/nightRated 8/10Any clues? I was thinking maybe the "World Centre Hotel", given the price. The reviews are pretty dire for that hotel though...There's also the following on hotwire:$203/nightLocation: Downtown - SoHo - Financial DistrictStar rating: 4-starFitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access I've also found the following on hotwire:$182/nightLocation: Downtown - SoHo - Financial DistrictStar rating: 3-starFree Internet Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant(s) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower I think it is the hampton. What do you think? Midtown area (and surrounds) 25 Oct - 27 Oct - hopefully the Affina Shelburne!!!We're trying to book the Affina for the 25-27. I think i've found it on hotwire again - do you agree? Free Internet Pet friendly Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Location: Empire State BuildingStar rating: 4-starCheck-in date: Tue, Oct 22Check-out date: Sun, Oct 27Thanks for your help!

The St. Giles The Court would be my best guess for this one.I'm assuming this thwarts your plans for a SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID using the above dates/parameters since you can't match up the Affinia Shelburne to make a continuous stay with your previous hotwire hotel purchase and therefore the above would involve changing hotels 3 times during your trip. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mads_101 Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 Bugger!Ok well i've found the following for 22 Oct - 27 Oct:Location: Empire State BuildingStar rating: 4-starCheck-in date: Tue, Oct 22Check-out date: Sun, Oct 27Amenities: See all amenitiesRate per night: $222.00Boutique Hotel Restaurant(s) Laundry Facilities (self-service) 90% satisfaction rating.Any clues? I was thinking the Library? Or the Avalon? Thanks so much!
AaronJB Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 My guess is that this may be an upgraded King and Grove, which was previously reported at the 3.5* level.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
mads_101 Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 Thanks - I think we'd be happy with that. The location is pretty good. The only other (budget friendly) altnerative is on Priceline3½ Star Hotel in Empire State Building Area for $185/nightGuaranteed Amenities: Free Internet in roomRestaurantFitness CenterThoughts? It's so much harder to try and guess priceline without the amenities listed unlike hotwire! really appreciate your assistance!maybe Courtyard By Marriott Midtown East?
thereuare Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 The Courtyard Manhattan/Midtown East is not on the ESB zone so that would not be a possibility for this one.The Courtyard New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue is located in this zone and that would be one option, but there could be others as well, too difficult to say given how common the amenities shown are for a NYC hotel. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mads_101 Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 Thanks for your ongoing help!Do you agree with Aaron about the King and Grove? Cheers!
thereuare Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Yes, the King and Grove would be my best guess for that one as well. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. mads_101 Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 Thanks for all your help. In the end we went with the budget option of $185/night in ESB (plus an additional 5% off). Courtyard New York Manhattan / Herald SquareCheck-In: Tue, Oct 22, 2013 / After 04:00 PMCheck-Out: Sun, Oct 27, 2013 / 12:00 PMRooms: 1 room / 5 nightsVery happy with the result.
