op331 Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 Hi,New to this forum. Looking for a 4* hotel in the USE area from 8/29-8/31. Appreciate input on the price point and an educated guess on the hotel name.Used the links on this site to go to PRICELINE and HOTWIRE and see:Hotwire Deal: $156/night with the following amenities:4.5-star Hotel in Union Square East - MosconePet friendly Indoor pool(s) Restaurant(s) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Priceline Express Deal: 4 Star Hotel in Union Square East Area for $160/night (5% coupon on top of this)Not sure if you need any additional info on this. The amenities list didnt seem too elaborate. Btw, tried priceline at $130 and got rejected. Also, will be traveling with 2 kids (4&2). If I go through one of these deals, would I need to pay extra for the kids? Thanks for your response and go blue! :)Regards.Opender
op331 Posted July 19, 2013 Author Report Posted July 19, 2013 Sorry posted in the wrong forum - is there a way to move this to the California thread? If not, let me know and I can close this here or appreciate your reply on here.Thanks.Opender
AaronJB Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding. The 4.5* HOTWIRE would be a possible match for the Intercontinental. Please provide the amenities showing with the Express Deals listing and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID the listing.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
op331 Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 So, slight change in plan and looking to stay in Fisherman's Wharf area now (due to proximity to Alcatraz). Still same dates - 8/29 - 8/31.Tried Priceline (using your link) with a couple of permutations for free bids (SFO north & Civic center south) starting at $160 and going upto $190 for a 4* in the FW area. Got a counter for $240.My question is - if I look at the Priceline website, Sheraton which is listed as a 4* is going for $199, so why would the counter be for $240? Unless its for one of the other hotels (Argonaut or Hyatt)? Would be bummed to get Sheraton if I went higher than $200. What are the chances I would get Sheraton?Looking for a 4* in the FW area - max to $200 since Sheraton is already available for $199 otherwise. Thoughts/suggestions?Thanks.
op331 Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 One more comment - I used the HOTWIRE link and see $171 for a 3.5* hotel in the Fisherman's Wharf area. Here are the amenities. Appreciate a guess on this hotel as well?Free Internet Pet friendly - terms apply Boutique Hotel Restaurant(s) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Thanks.
thereuare Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 To answer your original question above:PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)As far as the counter-offer, PRICELINE may not know that you checked rates on your own and know that $240 isn't a good deal. ;) First, the counter-offer can often be undercut, but you know that the 'right' price is between $191-$240... so a bid at less than $199 could be accepted making it lower than the PRICELINE retail rate, OR it could be a different 4* hotel in the zone. However, should you have accepted the PRICELINE offer, they do have a Best Rate Guarantee that would match the price plus give you an additional $25 refund. For the 3.5* HOTWIRE property above, best guess here would be the Best Western Plus Tuscan Inn at Fisherman's Wharf. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
