waxhotel Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Hi,First timer here. Never used priceline bidding before.Ive tried to bid for a 4 star hotel on priceline in the lower east side for the dates 5-13th sept. It says the median price is 466 and have entered bids of 240,250,260,270 and 275.Am i bidding too low? Do i need to bid at a different time? How else can i get something relatively 'trendy' for under 300 a night in les???thank you!
AaronJB Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding.A few thoughts/issues:4* bidding in the LES is (I believe) fairly new and no hotels at that level have been reported to the board. That said, I also don't believe there's that many.Limiting to one zone (where there's a fairly limited amount of 4*'s, at least in comparison to other NYC zones) is going to result in in this case higher costs. You have bid up to $275 for a 4* in LES, but HOTWIRE has a 4* in the Downtown/Soho zone for $205, a 4* in TS for $211 and a number of others between around $225-275. Most likely, you could get a 4* for less in any of these zone/s via bidding.Would any other zone/s besides LES be acceptable? Additionally, there's no way to bid for a particular hotel or even style ('trendy', etc.)Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.
waxhotel Posted July 15, 2013 Author Report Posted July 15, 2013 id like to stay in the LES. perhaps my stay is too long. maybe i should split my time with one of your suggestions and the les?
thereuare Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 I think your issue is that you're being too restrictive you in your search...We have never seen a 4* hotel won in this zone thru PRICELINE's Name Your Own Price, and it is very possible that there is currently only one (or possibly two) 4* rated hotels in this zone. If the one (or two) hotels have not offered inventory to PRICELINE for the entire length of your stay, it could be impossible to win a 4* hotel in this zone for your dates. So while the length of your stay may be an issue, i think the bigger issue may be your need to expand the areas that you're willing to stay in to give more hotels the opportunity to accept your bid.I am seeing what i believe to be the Affinia Shelburne (or the Affinia Dumont), both of which are very highly rated/reviewed, for $247/nite... would this be of any interest? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin all your bidding, searches, and travel purchases.PS- i typed my reply before seeing AaronJB's post, but i think my thoughts reinforce his comments. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
