jenni1461 Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Hi Forum Members,I have been reading the posts for a few days now and have registered as a member on the forum today. I need a hotel tomorrow!! I am panicking and do not know what to do. I probably made a rookie mistake thinking that a last minute deal or something would pop up on one of the sites, but no luck. Can anyone help me? I need help am panicking!I am travelling with a friend, looking for a 4*or more hotel in New York City. We would love to stay in SoHO, Upper West Side or Downtown. It is pretty important to us that we stay in a trendy hotel with a younger crowd (we just want to have some fun!). I am looking in the 160 range or lower. Is this possible at this time of year. Please help me! I am desperate! Thank you so much forum members! :)Jenn
thereuare Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can't choose the 'style' (trendy, business, historic, etc) of the hotel you will win on PRICELINE or HOTWIRE.. you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the type of hotel you're hoping for.Given that your budget will already be a bit difficult, i would suggest looking for *a* hotel instead of one of a particular type, and then have your fun outside of the hotel... plenty of non-hotel bars, restaurants, clubs, etc. that i'm sure can cater to whatever type of scene you are looking for. With the above noted it's your stay and you know your priorities best for this trip... in what aspects are you most/least flexible: hotel style, budget, star rating, zone, etc?Let us know more and we'll see that might be available. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jenni1461 Posted July 14, 2013 Author Report Posted July 14, 2013 Hello! Thank you so much. I think I am the most flexible on Hotel Style and zone, anywhere in the New York City area to still be able to get around reasonably would be great! Thanks!I am so sorry forgot to mention I will be in New york July 15-25! Thanks :)
thereuare Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 A quick look at rates for this 10 nite stay i think it's going to be difficult for all 10 nites at the same hotel at $160 or under. The closest things i see are what looks to be:4* The New Yorker Hotel Ramada Plaza for $186/nite3.5* Hotel Manhattan at Times Square for $172/nite... if you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID (and likely have to change hotels mid-trip) we can explore if that will help rates at all. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. jenni1461 Posted July 14, 2013 Author Report Posted July 14, 2013 I would definitely be able to switch hotels mid trip!
thereuare Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Would you be willing to change hotels twice (so 3 different hotels) or only change once (two different hotels)Are you flying into the area? If so, what time is your arrival and what time is your departure (seeing if a hotel airport is a viable option on the day you arrive or the nite before you depart... which airport?) Regardless if this is an option for you or not, if you are flying which airport do you arrive? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jenni1461 Posted July 14, 2013 Author Report Posted July 14, 2013 i think probably 3 hotels is a little bit too much, I Think two hotels would be the max for me! haha. I fly out of Laguardia so going to a hotel near there the night before (24th) would be a good idea! So maybe 2 hotels and another the night of the 24th! Thanks :)
thereuare Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 The 'problem' is the first few nites of your stay...I have for 7/18-7/24 i have found what i believe to be the Affinia Dumont or Affinia Shelbourne for $183/nite... both get excellent reviews with a 4.5/5.0 rating from Tripadvisor. But when looking for anything for the first 3 nites rates are substantially higher.I'm thinking the original suggestion of the Ramada New Yorker may be your best bet... you get the complete stay at one property so don't need to move at all, and based upon some of your earlier comments, you'll be close to Chelsea which is an 'in' area right now, as well as close to multiple subway lines for when you want to get to other parts of the city. One of the Affinia properties above would be nice, but looking ahead i'm just not seeing anything that can be uses for the first 3 nites without lowering your star rating substantially and/or increasing your budget (also substantially)... take this along with needing to change hotels a few times just doesn't seem to be worth it, imo.If you are interested in what i believe to be the New Yorker go to HOTWIRE and search for your compete set of dates and there should be a 4* hotel in the MSG-Hells Kitchen zone for ~$186/nite with:Free Internet Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower This would appear to be The New Yorker Ramada Plaza.Do you have any better ideas or options? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
