longlighter Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 My wife and I plan to stay in Boston for 2 nites at a 3.5* hotel from 9/27-9/29 in the area of Boston Common.Fishing among different info, we prefer DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Boston - Downtown with good guests rating and also close to China Town and South Station, which we value a lot.The problem is that HW shows that another $60 or so cheaper 3.5* The Boston Park Plaza Hotel is also in this area and I could very likely win this hotel if I start bidding.Faced with problems of this kind, how do you cope to win the exact hotel at a reasonable rate, please? Thanks a lot!!
AaronJB Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 There is no way to guarantee a particular property when using PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. If you bid for a certain star rating and a certain zone on PRICELINE, you have to be willing to accept any hotel at that star rating in that zone. Bidding higher in order to attempt to get or avoid a particular hotel will likely result in overbidding for the hotel you were trying to avoid/could have gotten cheaper. With HOTWIRE, you are (with the exception of a few cities) shown one hotel per star rating per zone. If it's not the hotel one is hoping for, there is no way to know if the hotel will change between now and your stay. Are you willing to stay at any 3.5* in the Boston Common zone?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
longlighter Posted July 14, 2013 Author Report Posted July 14, 2013 Thank you so much for your insightful advice, it really helped me know better how to travel cheaper. As for the 3.5* hotels in Boston Common, I compared and thought Doubletree would be the one i really want. Probably bidding on it at PL is not a wise option and I will wait till it's on HW.Thank you so much.
