maven Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Hello everyone,I've come across this website from another forum, and was intrigued at the information and resources available here. This is a solo, and my first trip to NYC , and I am interested in staying in the Theater district (mainly because there are many subway lines there), or the Midtown West.I booked my current hotel through booking.com at the Mayfair for 4 nights, with taxes it is coming up to $624. I am curious, is it possible to get a better star hotel using priceline, and for possibly a better price .Thanks in advance!Maven
thereuare Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!I think you can do significantly better for about 15% more cost... as an example, the Mayfair is rated 2.5* by Tripadvisor, has a 3.0 user review rating, and about 55% recommended by previous TA guests. Whereas what i believe to be the The Marcel at Gramercy is offered on HOTWIRE at $730 all-in. This property is a full star rating higher than the Mayfair and has a 4.0 TA review rating, and 75% recommended by previous TA guests. While in a different zone then you were previously considering, this hotel (assuming we are correct) is 3 blocks from the 6 subway line, 6 blocks from the N,R,W lines, and 8 blocks from the F,V lines. So this is about $20/nite more expensive, it could be argued that it provides a better value. There are other options, but let's start with your thoughts on the above (as i'm not sure if you're strictly looking to beat the other hotel on price or if you're willing to go up a little in price for a better rated/reviewed property)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. maven Posted July 13, 2013 Author Report Posted July 13, 2013 Thank you for the reply.Unfortunately, I am on a tight budget for this trip, so I don't want to go over what I currently have booked at the Mayfair. I would like to have a nice place to sleep (Mayfair just had a review about beg bugs :( ) and shower, and located near multiple subways stations, and I don't really need a lots of amenities apart from WiFi.
thereuare Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Currently i think your rate will be difficult to beat, but i would try bidding on PRICELINE in the weeks ahead as more and/or cheaper inventory may be added to the system. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. maven Posted July 15, 2013 Author Report Posted July 15, 2013 Hello again, Just saw this inventory loaded on the regular websites: Best Western Premier. Booked it for 587 with taxes for 4 nights. I think this is a pretty decent deal, so might not be bidding bid through pricelines inventory for this visit, but maybe will use it for the next trip, and thanks for your help. Maven
