nonotnowjim Posted July 11, 2013 Report Posted July 11, 2013 Hi Better Bidding team.I am planning a trip to the US in November with my wife. I have used this site for helpful content to book hotels in Washington and Niagara, however i am having a bit of trouble getting something in budget in NYC between the dates of Check in on Tues 19/11/13 and check out on Sat 23/11/13.Until now i have bid on Priceline on 3.5 star hotels in MTW, MTE, CPS, TS and ESB up to US$170 with no luckand today i have had bid rejected of US225 for 4 star hotels in TS, MTE, MTW and CPSOur only requirements is that the hotel is on Manhattan - Ideally we would like a 3.5 star for US$200 (inclusive of tax) or 4 star US@200 ( before tax) - location wise we would like to be in tourist central as a preference, working out if price is a hinderence.I appreciate that we are going at a busy time of year, and am willing to drop to 3 star if need be...I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed. When i tried to hi-jack another thread (sorry about that btw!) someone mentioned i may be struggling due to high demand on two of the days i am staying compared to the other two? would it be easier to split the booking? Thanks again for the site, the advice - and please feel free to ask me to click away on any links - as happy to do so!All the bestNNNJ
AaronJB Posted July 11, 2013 Report Posted July 11, 2013 This is usually a somewhat slightly less busy stretch within an otherwise VERY busy period, but rates do look rather high for these date/s. I think you're probably $10-20 away from a win at both 3.5*/4*. However, I'll note at the 3.5* level that the Hudson in CPS has VERY small rooms and a couple of MTE 3.5*'s are rather far E in MTE.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed. When i tried to hi-jack another thread (sorry about that btw!) someone mentioned i may be struggling due to high demand on two of the days i am staying compared to the other two? would it be easier to split the booking?I previously thought that this was Thanksgiving weekend, but i see now that is the week prior.Until now i have bid on Priceline on 3.5 star hotels in MTW, MTE, CPS, TS and ESB up to US$170 with no luckand today i have had bid rejected of US225 for 4 star hotels in TS, MTE, MTW and CPSIs there a reason you're inclusing ESB in your 3.5* bidding but not your 4* bidding? What about the MSG zone at both star levels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. nonotnowjim Posted July 12, 2013 Author Report Posted July 12, 2013 Yeah, i would be fine with 4 star ESB - The main reason i didnt bid so far in that area was that it was our least preferred out of those areas i stated (although preferable over financial district/hells kitchen and chelsea) - and hence, if we were bidding more we were first trying to get our most desired areas. Not so sure about MSG zone - dont know much about it...thought it was a convention area...?
nonotnowjim Posted July 12, 2013 Author Report Posted July 12, 2013 Hi allFollowing your advice i looked into the MSG area - and checked the hotels on the Priceline hotel list for that area. Wasnt interested in the New Yorker - but liked the look of the 3 star hotels there , especially TRYP and I also liked the look of the three star hotels listed in MTW (especially Ameritania). With that (and budget) in mind i decided to focus my bidding on those two areas. long story short, we eventually got up to US$201 and had the bid accepted. Allocated the TRYP by Wyndham -Time square South. It was a slightly higher price than i wanted to pay for 3 star, yet the hotel looks a lot nicer than we expected for a 3 star. All in all, we are very happy! Thank you again for all the advice team....
nonotnowjim Posted July 12, 2013 Author Report Posted July 12, 2013 Happy with that - better hotel than expected for 3 star.
