houtany Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 I wanted to get The Westgate Hotel here in San Diego between 7/29/13 and 8/2/13 and I did so successfully for $120.Bid History:Downtown-Harbor Island - 4 stars - $80Downtown-Harbor Island/El Cajon - 4 stars - $90Downtown-Harbor Island/El Cajon/Escondido - 4 stars - $100Downtown-Harbor Island/El Cajon/Escondido/Hillcrest - 4 stars - $110Downtown-Harbor Island/El Cajon/Escondido/Hillcrest/Hotel Circle - 4 stars - $115Downtown-Harbor Island/El Cajon/Escondido/Hillcrest/Hotel Circle/La Mesa - 4 stars - $120 ----> WINNERAll the other areas I chose DO NOT have 4 star hotels so they were "free bids" in a sense. Also, I used the Priceline code 'SUMMER' for an additional 5% off.I specifically wanted The Westgate because it is across the street from the San Diego Concourse where I will be taking an exam that week. Additionally, the Sheraton Marina in San Diego (also in the Downtown-Harbor Island zone) was sold out (check Priceline's published rates for the same dates), so that's how I was sure I could get the Westgate. Priceline's 4 star San Diego Downtown-Harbor Island "Express Deal" for $127 a night is also The Westgate Hotel for anyone interested in an easier route. The fine print reads that there is a $15 resort fee which is unique to Westgate in that zone.Total for 4 nights came to $532 and change. Hope this helps!
thereuare Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding!Congratulations on your success! Well played! Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and are pleased with the results. Do note for future bidding that we do, at times, see hotels won that are otherwise showing as sold-out on their own websites, so seeing a hotel as such doesn't exclude it entirely from the possibilities. This is more the exception then the rule, but something that you should at least be aware of.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. houtany Posted July 17, 2013 Author Report Posted July 17, 2013 I checked the Sheraton's own website, but I also checked PRICELINE's published rates for the same dates and the Sheraton did not show up in PRICELINE's published rates either. Is it still possible that it is not sold out?
AaronJB Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 It is still possible to appear as a win on the bidding side of PRICELINE.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.
