Hi,

Hoping for some help to find a hotel over this period in NYC. Looking for 4* plus up to $250 per night all up in Soho, Tribeca, Chelsea, LES, MSG/Hells Kitchen, and possibly midtown west or downtown. Open to suggestions if i can do better with different areas. Best i have found so far on HOTWIRE is as follows:

Downtown - SoHo - Financial District area hotel

4 Stars

Regular price $387

Hotwire price: $223 plus

Amenities: Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access

Recommended: In 90% of Hotwire customer reviews

Customer rating on TripAdvisor 4.0 out of 5.0

I Should also mention that I have bid up to $200 on PRICELINE for all of these areas for 4* minimum without success and am using the links provided.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

High-season in NYC starts just about this time as soon as summer ends.

I noticed you have not include TS, MTE, or ESB in your bidding... are these zones not acceptable? (they are some of the most frequently bid at the 4* level so if you are excluding these can you let us know what about these zones you don't like?) Did you include MTW and Downtown in your previous bidding up to $200 or have not yet included these two zones?

Let us know the above and we'll take it from there.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

I would prefer to avoid these zones but it's not essential. I was just browsing around and saw a suggestion to book the Friday to Monday (13-16) as one booking and worry about the Monday night separately. Is this a good idea to get a better rate for the weekend? I notice that doind a search on Hotwire or Priceline Express for the 3 nights gives much better rates.

Yes, SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is a viable strategy, but i'm not necessarily seeing better rates for the 4* hotels in the zones that you're bidding when searching for the 3nites vs. 4nites.... can you provide an example of the better rates that you're seeing?

For example, when searching HOTWIRE for all 4 nites i see

4* hotel in the MSG zone for $218/nite

4* hotel in the MTC zone for $260/nite

Searching for the 3 nite stay i see:

4* hotel in the MSG zone for $229/nite

4* hotel in the MTC zone for $238/nite

(so one up and one down)

On PRICELINE EXPRESS i do see a 4* MTW property offered at $220 for the 3 nites which does not appear when searching for all 4 nites, but since the Monday nite would likely be more expensive given the current rates, is this really better than the HOTWIRE MSG property for $218/nite which seems like it would ultimately be cheaper an not have you change hotels for the last nite of your stay.

If you don't want MTE, TS, and/or ESB that's fine, but i do think you have a chance of getting a 4* hotel in one of these zones at bid prices you have already tried, and at the 4* level these zones typically work well and are convenient for the average user.

I ended up shortening my stay to the 3 days and taking the express deal for the 5 star downtown which was the Conrad as I expected. $206 per night plus taxes. Thanks for your help. Booked using PRICELINE link.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board :)

If you recall, can you please confirm the amenities that were showing with this PRICELINE EXPRESS listing? Thanks.

Can you also please confirm the dates for this stay.

We hope you're satisfied with the outcome and will like the Conrad.

Enjoy your stay.
