isignedupalready Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 This is the first time I'm going to bid on PRICELINE. In the Newark area there are only two 3* hotels - Hilton Penn Station and Best Western Plus (not bidding in the airport area). What is a good bid to start at and what are my chances of winning the Hilton? Also, any advice in general?Thank you so much,Jeff
thereuare Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! In the Newark area there are only two 3* hotels - Hilton Penn Station and Best Western Plus...How did you determine this? What about the Courtyard Downtown Newark which is also 3* rated by PRICELINE and in this zone? There could still be others as well.In the Newark area there are only two 3* hotels - Hilton Penn Station and Best Western Plus...What is a good bid to start at and what are my chances of winning the Hilton? Also, any advice in general?I'm assuming that your goal is not because you really want to stay in Newark, is the objective a less expensive alternative to staying in Manhattan? You can't bid on, or target, a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. If you're trying to target, or take a guess as to the hotel you will receive before purchase, HOTWIRE would be a better option as you can use the amenities associated with the property to take a guess as to what is being offered before you commit to the purchase. What are the dates of your stay and what is your maximum budget per nite (before fees/taxes)?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. isignedupalready Posted July 7, 2013 Author Report Posted July 7, 2013 Hi thank you!I was using this site's list of hotels, I didn't do much research, haha. Yeah the goal is a less expensive alternative that's close to the train station. My dates of stay is Aug 30 - Sept 2. Our maximum budget is probably 100-115 per night, but of course we prefer something less. Thank you!
thereuare Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 I was using this site's list of hotels...See the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List. Our maximum budget is probably 100-115 per night, but of course we prefer something less.Let's look at your total cost for this stay... if staying in NJ at $115 nite you're looking at $2/pp each way to get to Manhattan, which brings your cost to $123/nite.PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 3.5* hotel in Downtown Manhattan for $133/nite and the coupon/link in my signature gives you 5% off bringing your cost to just about the same amount. There is also a 3* hotel for $137 in the ESB zone and a 4* hotel DT for $148. Why not use the cheap summer rates as an opportunity to stay directly in Manhattan for just about the same amount of money and save yourself the 45 minute commute each day for a short trip? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. thereuare Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 I assume this is for your Aug 30-Sept 2 stay... the same trip as your other Priceline hotel thread? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. isignedupalready Posted July 7, 2013 Author Report Posted July 7, 2013 Yeah, taking your advice for a closer hotel to reduce that commute. August 30 - Sept 2.
thereuare Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 We've merged your two threads since they are for the same dates/trip... please keep all posts for the same stay in this thread.Once you win a hotel and use the EDIT TO REPORT WIN button on the lower right corner of this page, the thread will automatically be moved to the correct section of the board (if necessary)The Club Quarters Downtown has previously been seen with this amenity set so that would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.
