iamian Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 I just used the bidding history to book a room, but was rejected - even using the helpful tips for rebidding. So, I am wondering if I need to wait a few days until more hotel companies add inventory to Priceline. My bidding history:Fisherman's Wharf Area4* for $200 rejected3 1/2* for $185 rejected, added another zone and $195 rejected, added another zone $200 rejected.Considering the winning bid history include $170 and $184 for similar check-in/check-out dates, I am wondering if Priceline has temporarily run out of rooms that are priced at the historical winning bid rates.I am in no rush, so no problem to wait a day, but your advice will help direct me to make smarter bids. Thanks in advance for any comments!! PS: will remember to use the PRICELINE link before bidding again.
thereuare Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Inventory is constantly added (and removed) from the system by the hotels based upon their own occupancy levels and their new reservations/cancellations.However, rates are date specific and can vary substantially from one day to the next... what are the actual dates that you are bidding? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. iamian Posted July 5, 2013 Author Report Posted July 5, 2013 planning to check in on July 24 and checkout on July 30. Regards,
AaronJB Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 Is the Fisherman's Wharf area the only acceptable area?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
iamian Posted July 6, 2013 Author Report Posted July 6, 2013 since I've got a 7,9, and 1 yr old, the closer to the touristy stuff the better. Back up plan is Embarcadero if the desired area fails. I plan on rebidding and starting at $190 for my next opportunity. Hotwire quotes 4* at $252, and it looks like its for the boutique hotel, Argonaut, in the Wharf area. So the differential between the unknown (on Priceline) and the likely-known (on Hotwire) is so small, then may just go through Hotwire. The Argonaut is priced in the $300's, so I am still happy with whatever I get. Will post a winning bid back here if successful.
thereuare Posted July 6, 2013 Report Posted July 6, 2013 If you're only bidding on one room remember that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If you're searching HOTWIRE for 2adults/2children you ensure sleeping accommodations for at least four, which is another aspect to consider. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
