Hotwire Hotel: 4* Rome (Stazione Termini - Colossea) Royal Court Hotel

I had "won" this hotel at a rate of $106.09 + tax, for a total of $494.68 for the 4 nights. While I don't mind the hotel, it seems pretty decent, when I went to their website I discovered that their prices are CHEAPER than what I paid to Hotwire. Hotwire was claiming average room rate was around $260+ for this hotel, which is a complete lie. Even for a triple room, I overpaid by a bit. I emailed Hotwire, but they have not responded.

I think it's false advertising and I would caution anyone bidding for this hotel in Rome to avoid getting it though Hotwire as you can book for less directly with the hotel.

This was the most disappointing "win" I've ever had with Hotwire.

Sorry to hear this didn't turn out to be a deal for you.

At the hotel website i'm not showing any availability for your complete stay when searching for 2adults/1child.

Also, the crossed out rate shown by HOTWIRE is not the rate of the hotel you're about to purchase, but rather the average rate of hotel(s) in that zone and star rating for your dates within the last 48 hours.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities shown before your purchase... you can still view this information by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.

Also, for the future please change the drop down menu on the top right of HOTWIRE's page to United States and the currency dropdown to US Dollars. Then continue to search HOTWIRE and post to the board in US Dollars so that rates are consistent and not subject to interpretation due to future currency fluctuation. Once you're ready to purchase stay on the US version of their site and simply change the drop down menu to whatever currency you'd like to use and complete your purchase.

Thank you. It turned out not to be a deal at all. I didn't realize about the price averaging, but I would have still expected not to pay MORE via Hotwire than directly booking with hotel. Although those dates are no long available, they most definitely were when I made my booking and for at least a few days after (I think it also included breakfast, which this does not). Is there any recourse?

I don't think you have any recourse, especially now that the hotel is showing sold-out for your dates.

As well, HOTWIRE's Best Rate Guarantee requires you find a lower rate within 48 hours after booking, so you're outside that window as all.

Feel free to ask the board for help before your future purchases, and post your wins as you receive them since as you can see there are sometimes more avenues to try to pursue immediately after booking.

As for Hotwire's Best Rate Guarantee, I had emailed HOTWIRE within 48 hours, and the rate was available for at least 48 hours on that website. HOTWIRE just ignored my email.

If you cc'd yourself a copy of the email and/or took a screenshot of the better price i would try again, but without a copy of the original email and a screenshot of the better price, it will be difficult for them to do much since the lower rate is no longer available.
