What would I expect for 5* hotels to pull from these days? Cosmo, Aria, Vdara and/or ??
AaronJB Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 Welcome to Betterbidding.Under Express Deals I'm seeing one 4.5* and one 5* in the Strip South zone. Are you seeing all of these listings under Strip South? If not, which listings are within which zones?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
afscotch Posted July 1, 2013 Author Report Posted July 1, 2013 I just looked again, and I'm still seeing five options, two 5* and three 4 1/2*. Dates are 26-29 July. It's priceline and specifically labeled "Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South" for the location. I don't see a "Strip South" option (there is a strip north one though). Thanks for trying to help
thereuare Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 What property(s) do you want for this stay?Is having a guess as to the property you may receive important for this trip OR are you looking for the lowest possible price at the star rating you decide? What is your maximum budget (before taxes/fees) for this trip? afscotch Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 I kinda want to stay at Mandalay Bay for their pool is there's an educated guess it'll be that property. Haven't stay at Cosmo, so it that was one of the educated guesses, we'd like that, too. Otherwise any of the usual 5* guesses at the lowest price would be good. I know, not very committal.
thereuare Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 We have not yet seen Mandalay Bay reported to the board as a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal, and given that PRICELINE's amenities for their express deals are still very generic, i don't think we'll be able to predict that property with any high degree of certainty. If you're flexible, and as you say above, looking for the lowest price on a 5* property, why not begin by bidding on PRICELINE? The 'name your own price' side of their service is usually the cheapest way to book (sometimes you can get a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for a little less), but you can use the lowest rate of any 5* hotel above as an upper bidding limit, then if rejected re-evaluate all of the options above. If you decide you only want Mandalay Bay, we do have a link to their property as well as most other major hotel chains and booking agencies in our Support Page. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. afscotch Posted July 5, 2013 Author Report Posted July 5, 2013 Thanks for the feedback. I did the 11 time rebid routine (adding a new zone each time that doesn't have a 5* option) yesterday for the 5* South zone and it ended at $121/nt (I think). At that point it isn't much of a deal once you add the potential of another $25/nt for the 'resort fee' (that is tacked on at check-in, right?). Maybe I'm too far out from my dates? For about the same price I can go direct to several properties and book directly with a local's deal. There aren't any 4.5*'s listed on the hotel listing...what seems to be the thoughts on what those might be?
thereuare Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 At that point it isn't much of a deal once you add the potential of another $25/nt for the 'resort fee' (that is tacked on at check-in, right?).While including any resort fee may be more than you want to pay, it doesn't make it any less of a deal since you would be paying Resort fees on any hotel direct purchases as well. I suspect that you're not too far off, and a another $5-$15 may be enough, but not sure what the local/resident rate you're able to get for these dates. There aren't any 4.5*'s listed on the hotel listing...what seems to be the thoughts on what those might be?The Elara would be at least one possibility at the 4.5* level in the Strip South zone. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. afscotch Posted July 20, 2013 Author Report Posted July 20, 2013 hi,going to vegas 26-29 Jul for fun. I have a refundable reservation at MB for $505 (including resort fees) but have been trying to bid for something cheaper the last week. Seems the express deals have ticked down a little and this morning there is the following 5* express deal:26-29 Jul; $137/ntIndoor or Outdoor PoolRestaurantBusiness CenterCasinoFitness CenterRoom options$155/nt Terrace Studio - 1 Bed Requested. $233/nt Terrace One Bedroom - 1 Bed Requested. $243/nt Terrace Studio - Fountain View - 1 Bed Requested. $262/nt Terrace One Bedroom - Fountain View - 1 Bed Requested. This 'has' to be Cosmo, right? I would pay the same (or actually about $30 more than MB, but the $455+resort fees once I get there for a total of ~$539 is maxing my room budget) to stay there, but otherwise I want MB b/c of their pool. Basically, other than the standard disclaimer, any reason to think this might be Vdara (want MB instead) or Aria (want MB instead) or other? I've done the bidding trick to keep it really only Strip South and have stopped at $124/nt because I feel there is actually greater unknown with bidding than the express deal because I can see the room options.Thoughts?
afscotch Posted July 20, 2013 Author Report Posted July 20, 2013 Still working this...I have a refundable reservation with MB directly with their local rate (Deluxe King) $505 all-in (does include the resort fee). Still trying every night to bid for a little bit lower deal. Will let you know how it turns out. Looks like the rates have ticked down a little the last couple days..that normal? Would you expect that downward trend or do they shoot back up to get ever last penny from the last minute deciders?
AaronJB Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Timing is discussed in detail in the FAQ. There is no way to know, really. Rates may move lower closer to your stay but they can also stay around the same level or head higher. Over the last few years, there have been less instances of deals coming up last-minute.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. When you ultimately win a hotel use the EDIT TO REPORT WIN button on the lower right corner of this page and the entire thread will be move automatically to the correct section of the board (if necessary).I agree that the best guess for the PRICELINE EXPRESS property above would be the Cosmopolitan. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. afscotch Posted July 25, 2013 Author Report Posted July 25, 2013 The PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal stayed, more or less, until today so I booked and it was Cosmo. The listing changed a couple days ago to starting with the Terrace Studio for $131/nt - 5% (originally the listing started with the city room @ $137/nt).
