I'm looking at 5* hotel on The Strip - North on the dates of Friday, 9/13 through Monday, 9/16. I used the forum-recommended HOTWIRE link and I'm seeing a listing for $128/night (from $246/night), and 90% Hotwire customer review rating. Can I get help identifying it - I'm thinking it's the Trump...? Thanks in advance!

I just found out last night that Floyd Mayweather will be fighting that weekend (9/14) and I'm wondering if this will potentially drive prices up and limit my chances to get a good rate via HOTWIRE / PRICELINE for those dates...?

Posted

I'm out of the boxing loop so i don't know how big of a draw this match will be, but rates will already reflect the expected demand for these dates.

Things could change, and rates could go up or down between now and then, but currently it does look like rates are higher than 'normal' demand. Assuming the Trump is not what you were looking for... what were you expecting to pay for a 5* hotel on the strip? (or were you looking for a lower rated hotel?)

Mayweather's just about the biggest boxing name out there - the fight sold out in less than 24 hours and it was just announced this week (after we'd settled on those dates). They're saying it could produce boxing's largest live gate of all time and that the demand for tickets, even before going on sale, was unprecedented.

Yeah, we're not looking for the Trump - we were hoping for a different 5* hotel on the Strip and hoping to keep it beneath $150 (not sure if this is at all reasonable now, considering it being a long weekend and especially with this big fight...).

Rates in Vegas change quicker than any other market in the country, but current rates suggest that $150 is on the low side.

Although most 5* hotels are $200+, PRICELINE EXPRESS does have a 5* hotel in the Strip North zone with:

Indoor or Outdoor Pool

Free Parking

Restaurant

Business Center

Casino

Fitness Center

My guess for this one would be the Palazzo. It's currently priced at $184/nite, but using our PRICELINE link and COUPON CODE: SUMMER gives you 5% off bringing this closer to the $175 mark... should this be of any interest.

We'd absolutely love the Palazzo or the Venetian! How certain are you that that's what this listing is (and if not, what else could it be)? Given what you know about this being a big fight night, what are your feelings about rates going down between now and then, or just continuing to get higher?

I can't see the hotel name either... but i feel 'pretty good' that this is a correct guess. If i should be wrong, what's the downside... Wynn or Encore, that's not a bad 'consolation prize' and make the risk a bit easier to accept. ;) (although i do believe the Palazzo is the most likely...and you know it's not the Trump since there is a casino listed and that property doesn't have one)

I couldn't say, as noted above, rates in Vegas move more quickly then any other hotel market in the country... hotels have a guesstimate at the moment as to how many new reservations (and cancellations of existing reservations) will occur between now and check-in. If they get more fewer reservations (or more cancellations) then they guess then rates will likely fall... if they get more reservations then expected (or fewer cancellations) then rates will likely move higher. Nobody can say how actual demand comes in relative to current expected demand (and if you could you'd have a very good career in hotel revenue management).

Would you consider $184/night to be a pretty decent price for the Palazzo (or Wynn/Encore) over this 3-day weekend? Or is this a bit higher than typical, and it might be worth monitoring prices a bit to see how they're trending?

Posted

I'm seeing regular rates at Venetian/Palazzo around $250 for these date/s so $184 is not a bad deal for these date/s. You can monitor rates for a bit, but if there's an event going on you may have last minute walk-ins and/or rates generally sticking around these levels/going higher. There's really no way to know for sure what inventory/expected traffic is/will look like.

There's a 5* hotel on The Strip - South for the same dates of Friday, 9/13 through Monday, 9/16. Using the forum-recommended HOTWIRE link, I'm seeing a listing for $248/night for 4 people (from $489/night), and 90% Hotwire customer review rating. Help would be appreciated - thanks in advance!

And one more: there's a listing for a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for a 5-star hotel in Las Vegas Strip North Area from 9/13 - 9/16 for $208/night. The Guest Score is 9.0/10. Listed amenities are: Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Free Parking, Restaurant, Business Center, Casino, and Fitness Center. Thanks in advance!

Sorry missed that one...

To clarify, the Vdara would be my guess for the HOTWIRE Strip South property... my guess for the PRICELINE EXPRESS Strip North property would be the Palazzo (keep in mind the PRICELINE EXPRESS off would technically only be for double occupancy)

I was going to book it tonight, but it looks like it's gone now. Regarding double occupancy, would it be dangerous to book a similar listing on PRICELINE EXPRESS and ask for a 2-queen room at check-in? I called the Venetian/Palazzo and they said any rooms can accommodate up to 4 adults, and I've also been told that asking for a 2-bed room at check-in after booking on PL for rooms in Vegas won't ever be a problem. Is this not necessarily true?

Posted

A number of users have run into issues with PRICELINE and double occupancy in Vegas - 5* properties have (in a number of occasions) required upgrade charges for rooms with two beds. I'd suggest using HOTWIRE and indicating four.

Which one were you looking to book that is no longer available?

Most Las Vegas hotels, especially at the higher end 5* properties, now consider single bed rooms to be 'standard' and rooms with two queen beds cost more and are considered to be an upgrade. The standard rooms at the 5* properties can typically accommodate quad occupancy with the use of a pullout sofabed, and most of the properties are also charging more for quad occupancy vs. double occupancy (even when using the pullout sofabed and not needing two 'actual' beds). If the hotel is able, and willing, to upgrade you to a room with 2 beds i would expect to pay extra directly to the hotel, although occasionally the upgrade can be had just for asking and with no additional charge (although for free it is becoming more and more rare). Also, if you declare all four guests in the room the hotel may seek to charge extra for that as well.

I had been hoping to book the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for the Palazzo for $208/night on that F-M fight weekend...

It's still offered if you want it... but as noted above, i think the bigger issue is double vs. quad occupancy if you're looking for two 'true' beds in each room.

Yeah, I think I'm going to back off on PRICELINE deals and stick to HOTWIRE with quad occupancy to be safe.

There's a 4* hotel on The Strip - North for the same dates of Friday, 9/13 through Monday, 9/16. Using the forum-recommended HOTWIRE link, I'm seeing a listing for $144/night for 4 people (from $298/night), and 75% Hotwire customer review rating. Help would be appreciated - thanks in advance!
