We're (a couple) visiting new york first time, and i wanted to look if i can safe money with priceline.

We're looking for a 3* hotel in the near of a subway station. What would be a realistic priceline price

For our dates?

Greetings

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you haven't yet please start by reading your messages.

Your location requirements are much too broad as there are subway stops all over the city (but that doesn't mean that you would want to stay at every location in the city).

The most limiting factor for most NYC visitors is their budget... what is your maximum bid/expected budget (per nite before fees/taxes) for this trip, and we'll then have a look at rates for your dates and advise accordingly.

Few thoughts...

At the 4* level (if you decide to bid for the highest star rating within your budget) all of those are generally good for the average visitor. At the 3.5* and under you need to be aware of the following:

CPS - has the Hudson Hotel which is well located but has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) so you'll need to decide if this will be acceptable and if you want to include this zone or not

MTE - at 3.5* and under some of the known hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, would this be acceptable?

As far s when to bid there is no right or wrong answer, as nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your stay. However, historically the few days before Thanksgiving are expensive (since all those high school marching bands from all over the country that participate in the Thanksgiving Day Parade have to sleep someplace), then the weekend after Thanksgiving are low (relative to this time of year in NYC), then rates shoot up again into high-season mode for the end of the Christmas Season. For more on this subject see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

Once you're ready to move forward let us know if you want to first bid on a 4* up to your maximum bid, then if rejected try for a 3.5* up to your maximum bid, then if rejected try for a 3*... OR if your goal is the least expensive 3* or better for this trip. Also, in light of the zone info above, please confirm the zone(s) that you would like to bid at each star level.

Hi,

Ok forget mte and cps, and take chelsea instead.

Our favourite hotel would be the hilton garden inn times square.

Do you think its possile to get a 4*hotel for 200$ in this period?

Posted

If you're bidding 4* MTE and CPS should be fine to include... so not sure if you're looking to exclude these for any 4* bidding, it's only at 3.5* and below that these zones become an issue.

I think $200 all-in for a 4* may be difficult for these dates, but worth trying, especially with the rate change during this particular week it's difficult to say exactly how things will play out... but i do think you should be able to get a 3.5* within your budget (or at the very least very close to your budget).

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and what you would like to try first and we'll advise accordingly.

What about MSG and/or ESB... are either of these zones acceptable?

Including (at least) one more zone will give you more bidding opportunities and also give more hotels the chance to accept your bid price... but of course you should only include another zone if you'd be happy with the area.

Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.
