I haven't really spent a night here, on account of hurricane Rita that triggered an evacuation of all visitors just two hours after I checked in (Priceline refunded). I'll describe what little I've experienced since there isn't yet a review here.

This motel is aptly rated 2*. It's equivalent to a Travelodge or Comfort Inn. The only thing "Marriott" about it is the soap and shampoo.

The room was not terribly large but it did have 2 full beds that would sleep 4. It would have been just OK for a short stay. The location is pretty good - much closer to the downtown area than the better-quality hotels on the same road.

There is a nice swimming pool with a Tiki bar. Continental breakfast is served at the bar in the mornings.

I thought I had read somewhere that the rooms all had Internet access, but that was not the case. There was free wi-fi in the lobby and the Tiki bar. The signal from the Tiki bar probably extends around the pool and into the rooms right by the pool. There was no trace of a signal in my room that was on the back of the building.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Parking was free. Newspaper free. Local calls free. This probably would have been a good stay.

There are some shops and restaurants within walking distance. To get to Duval Street one would probably need to drive, take a bus/taxi or rent a moped (available in the hotel's parking lot, no motorcycle license required).

My adult son and I stayed here 2/27/11 for just one night. My bid was $126. I was offered a chance at an extension to the next night, but that rate would have been $165.

It is a 2 1/2* now. Free convenient parking.

The map we had marked it on the opposite side of the street from where it actually is. It is really is on the even numbered side, along with the rest of the even numbered places. It is also tricky to spot since the signs are sort of hidden in the palm tree foliage.

The desk was helpful and kind.

The free breakfast was excellent. Lots of good choices, and then one can sit in the open air overlooking the gorgeous pool while eating. Very pleasant.

The pool is lovely, a sprawling shape with different areas, fountains, and plantings. Even more importantly, it is heated to the perfect temperature IMO.

The rooms are smallish, although comfortable and functional. There is a separate compartment for toilet and shower. The wash basin area is part of the bedroom area, separated by a partial curtain.

The hotel is about a mile and a half from the main downtown area of Key West (Duval Street), but is on a city bus route and the little tourist train route.

Beds were very comfortable, and the room was quiet.

The stay worked very well for us.

PS - Key West food tends to be pretty expensive. We had two excellent and reasonably priced meals at Goldman's Bagel Deli in the Winn Dixie Plaza just northwest of the hotel on the main highway. 2796 N. Roosevelt.

PPS - Hemingway's house is a don't-miss.
