Newtraveler2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Hi. I really really need some suggestions on planning our first visit to NYC specially on the hotel choice. We have 4 adults and 2 school age kids. Main activities are the sightseeing at NYC. Want to book >3.5* and where will be the best way to get cheaper (considering hotel, parking, train/bus tickets...), easy commute from hotel to the visiting sites? Seems NJ, jersey city Hoboken is more expensive than down town NYC. But maybe I over looked the parking fee for hotels in NYC. The dates we are looking at are 7/12-16, 2 rooms or suit. Should I keep bidding for Hoboken >3.5* hotels, but I already bid 120$... No luckOrJust bid NYC? Which district? Is there anyway I can find cheap parking lot at NYC, so I don 't have to pay hotel for parking. Please help!!!
thereuare Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet please start by reading your messages. The first issue you need to address is that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. This is especially true in NYC where rooms are typically smaller then usual and rooms with two beds is often considered an upgrade from 'standard'. If this is not a risk you're willing to take HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Let us know your thoughts regarding the comments above, as well as your maximum budget (per nite per room before fees/taxes) and we'll have a closer look at your options. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Newtraveler2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Author Report Posted June 22, 2013 We are willing to take the risk of one bed / room. But most 3.5* above hotels should have just king bed as single bed, right? I hope to get less than 150 / room before taxes/ fees. But, the parking and commute should also be considered since it could be very significant...Thanks.

AaronJB Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 But most 3.5* above hotels should have just king bed as single bed, right? Not in New York City. Some rooms at the 3.5* and above level are as small as 130-160 sq ft. A king - when available - is often a paid upgrade (and PRICELINE reservations are for standard rooms.) Kings are definitely not common at the standard room level in many NYC properties.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. If you haven't yet please start by reading your messages.2xGiven the comments above that a single bedded room may very likely be less than a King sized bed (it could be as small as one double bed) are you still willing to accept this risk? While taking this risk in a family oriented market such as Orland may be a risk that most are willing to accept... it's usually not recommended or an acceptable risk in the NYC market. Also, how old are the children as it sometimes can be easier to get away with it if the kids are very young vs. if the kids are teenagers. How many rooms/adults/children were included above for the HOTWIRE search? How many vehicles will you need to park and from what direction are you traveling from? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Newtraveler2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Author Report Posted June 22, 2013 No, only one queen or smaller bed / room would not work. But the 4*, 3.5* hotels in Hoboken seem have all king beds. Do you think it is better deal if I can bid hoboken 3.5 , 4 in Priceline? How much for the bid will be comparable with getting 3, 3.5 hotel in NYC in terms of all cost.Go back to the Hotwire. I put July 13-16, 2 adult 1 kid, 2 roomsWe have one car and driving from Washington, D.C$131 per room, per night at Times Square - Theatre District area hotelFree Internet, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center$132 per room, per night at Downtown - SoHo - Financial District area hotelFitness Center, High-Speed Internet Access95% recommended$142 per room, per night at Empire State Building area hotelBoutique Hotel, Restaurant(s), Laundry Facilities (self-service)90% recommended$145 per room, per night at Downtown - SoHo - Financial District area hotelPet friendly, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s)95% recommendedOr should I consider Long Island?

AaronJB Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Go back to the Hotwire. I put July 13-16, 2 adult 1 kid, 2 roomsAre the above listings appearing when you search 2 rooms/4 adults/2 children or 2 rooms/2a/1c? You will get different results when searching for 2/4/2 vs 2/2/1 and if you are 4a/2c, then you should search for 4a/2c/2roomsAdditionally, If you go back to HOTWIRE and click this offer from the search results page, then on the ensuing page click the 'See all' link under the amenities, do you see more than what you've posted above?Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
